One of the fragrance houses that flies under the radar is La Parfumerie Moderne. The company was founded by Philippe Neirinck in 2014 and draws inspiration from grand hotels of yesteryear. Each perfume is  composed by perfumer Marc Antoine Corticchiato, who  is best known for his own brand Parfums d’ Empire ( Le Cri de La Lumiere just received one of my top ten CaFleureBon 2017  Best of Scent). 

La Parfumerie Moderne Belles Rives is an olfacative tribute to the famous art deco hotel of the same name. For Americans, did you know author F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald stayed there, and in fact to this day there is a plaque that bears their name?

La Parfumerie Moderne Belles Rives captures the beauty of a late summer day during the golden era of the jazz age. In my mind Zelda and Scott would be spraying on this sexy scent before a night of dancing and drinking.

    Haven’t heard about this house yet, so I was excited to hear the review. I live in Austin, TX, where there still aren’t enough places to experience the boutique/hidden gem fragrance houses in person. Le sigh.

    As far as a hotel for such a scent, I’d probably choose The Victoria Inn, in Holkum. After a day at Holkham beach, this would be a time travel fragrance for the leisurely sunlit walk back to the old Estate.

    I like how Sebastian would explain certain special ingredients featured in the note pyramid instead of glossing over it. It helps me to learn more about perfumery.

    I’d like to suggest Abbaye de la Bussière in Burgundy, which was an abbey in 12th century as the next inspiration. It would be a great incense theme.

    Sebastian killing it with another in depth review. He always breaks it down so well for those of us who are not exactly experts. There’s a lot of interesting notes in here that I really don’t have much of in my collection so it is exciting. I really don’t know too much about hotels, so I can’t give any creative or exciting answers for this one, unfortunately. Anyway, much love to Sebastian, he is one of the best in the community.

    Iris, Incense, Myrrh! Belles Rives sounds really interesting. For the years I know Sebastian as fragrance reviewer, he is always specific and honest about fragrances, always helpful and direct with specifics, suggestions and comparisons, same goes with La Parfumerie Moderne Belles Rives review, short and informative and as always intriguing, I always add new fragrances to my wish to try list.
    Really love the idea of La Parfumerie Moderne based on hotels, even though I have not tried many, the only thing comes to my mind is Switzerland and its alps hotels. Berggasthaus Aescher Hotel, The Aescher Guesthouse is a Heaven on earth.

    As always Sebastian’s reviews are succinct, yet nuanced. I’m not familiar with the house, but love several of Marc Antoine Corticchiato creations.The only old hotel which comes to mind is the Drake, in Chicago. I live i the US.

    What I really really enjoyed about this fragrance in Sebastian’s YouTube clip was the fact he said they come in unique separate bottles! Also, the fact their names after hotels and also how he mentions their notes very detailed, especially when he refers to osmanthus! Love that fruit part about it!

    I enjoyed the description of Belles Rives and am intrigued by the inclusion of myrrh and vetiver, which I enjoy. I think a classic hotel would be Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Lake Louise, Alberta. I’m in Idaho, USA. Thanks for the opportunity.

    The moment Sebastian pronounced the name of Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, I immediatelly knew I must have this fragrance. Not only that, but also the way he describe it as sexy caught my attention. “Belles rives” sound so good.
    I do not know old hotels.

    Sebastian is down to earth and his reviews are casual and comfortable. I have never read about Cosmone before so I looked it up and learned something today. As for the old hotel…for sure The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. This bottle is great and I would love a chance to win. Thank you!

    What I enjoyed about Sebastian’s review is how he brought to light that this fragrance is based on a hotel which is interesting and the note of cosmone which I never heard of and never seen in other fragrances. An old hotel in France that dates back to 1907 which I believe would be a great inspiration is Trianon Palace, Versailles. Like it’s camouflage carpets in which the word camouflage means to conceal by means of disguise, this can have relevance to perfumery in that when a person reads the ingredients profile of a certain fragrance it might hint of being a fougere or chypre per say but in actuality surprises the most discerning of them with something totally different.     I always watch Sebastian because his descriptions are almost 3 dimensional. I think the Peabody in Memphis Tennessee would represent the fragrance. Belles Rives sounds like it would be at home there. I would real like to try this. Thanks for the opportunity!

    Sebastian’s reviews are always informative. I am not Milyer with this fragrance.Sebastian description of this fragrance as sexy perked my interest. I have a number of the fragrances many of which I like a great deal but are somewhat challenging and would probably not be described as sexy. I also tend to wear somewhat heavy masculine fragrances and do not have any that feature Iris or push more toward the unisex. I have been hoping to branch out in this direction though… This one sounds like it might fit the bill and may a good introduction to this house.

    I like Sebastian reviews. The way he describes a scent is clear and professional in the same time. The way he describes Iris note stimulates my craving towards that scent.     As always, I love Sebastian’s reviewing style…very down-to-earth and accessible. This perfume, being unisex, sounds wonderful! Who doesn’t love a sexy perfume!? I can’t think of one right off the top of my head but an interesting inspiration for a scent would be an old hotel purported to be haunted! I am in the US. Thank you for the chance!

    I completely enjoyed Sebastian’s description of the burn down of the scent. I am a complete fan of anything myrrh and all things iris. I find I often agree with Sebastian’s take on scents. This would likely be a perfect fit for me.

    I would want a perfume for the Plaza in Manhattan. Something that reflects it’s history and the vibe of Manhattan as well. I live in the US in Pennsylvania and thank you all as always.

    I love his detailed descriptions and how the scent trail took him by surprise (Who smells so sexy?? Oh, it’s me!) and that it’s a great fragrance to share. I want to smell as sexy as Sebastian! I love to have an image/story to connect to a fragrance, and I’d love to learn more about the hotel that inspired this scent. I think the del Coronado in San Diego should get its own fragrance. I would do something like: petrichor, eucalyptus, salty air, wood, and jasmine or lemon blossoms. I’m in California, USA.

    Marc Antoine is, without question, my favorite perfumer. I have most of his Pd’E creations, as well as Desarmant from this house (a stunning lilac, BTW). From the review, citrus + incense + iris is an accord that really piques my interest. As someone commented above, I think the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado would be the perfect setting for LPM’s next outing.

    Belles Rives sounds really interesting. Sebastian’s reviews are always detailed and to the point in an open and direct manner that helps me choose my favorite ones based on his wonderful suggestions and I believe that much is the same with La Parfumerie Moderne Belles Rives review, swift, informative and as always interesting to listen to, iris, Incense, Myrrh notes make Belles Rives a top priority want to try perfume!
    I find the idea of La Parfumerie Moderne based on hotels truly appealing and would love to smell a perfume creation inspired by the Ritz Hotel in Paris, imagine all those notes used trying to evoke the history, greatness, beauty and luxury of old and present times!

    This looks like a great creation as it has buttery and creamy elements and of course, I love iris when it is done right. I was aware of past collaborations with Marc of Perfume d’Empire and I am glad La Parfumerie Moderne Belles Rives has been made by Marc as well. I would choose the Grandhotel Pupp in the movie Grand Budapest Hotel. Thanks for the draw. I am in US.

    when sebastian mentions incense and myrrh i automatically think head shop aroma. i loved going into those hippie stores and smelling the mixture i used to get. i can imaging the scent in the old hotels it might be related to. mesmerizing.

    Oh, I LOVE Corticchiato’s creations, also those for La Parfumerie Moderne. I own a bottle of No Sport, and a decant of Annee Folles, and they are great!
    I think Sebastian perfectly explains the way in which Corticchiato masters his creations, with a perfect balance of notes, never too loud, never too faint, and a great sens for composition.
    I would love him to work on Grand Hotel in Rimini, for a perfume dedicated to Federico Fellini.

    I didn’t know about the connection with the hotels and i agree the bottles are art deco like. Sebastian’s review make this one sound very nice with the iris, osmanthus and woody notes. He keeps saying sexy many times and this makes me want to try it even more 🙂

    Sebastian always describes fragrances in a way that gets you wanting to give them a try. It is no different with Belles Rives. He got my interest piqued. I live in Canada and on Sebastians review it lists Canada as being one of the eligible areas for this contest. Canada isn’t listed in this article, so I hope Sebastian’s listing was correct.

    I normally don’t watch videos about perfume reviews but I liked Sebastian’s presentation which was so on point. As a total sucker for iris gragrances I am more than curious alreay since you first posted about it but unfortunately did not get the chance to try it anywhere. I am from Germany.
    As for the hotel inspiration I would definately suggest the legendary La Mamounia in Marrakesh. Sitting in their fragranced garden was one of a kind experience and a paradise like atmosphere.

    I always enjoy Sebastian reviews. This perfume sounds very interesting, beautyful and SEXY, SEXY, SEXY because during the description Sebastian used it much more than other words ))) I own La Parfumerie Moderne No Sport- interesting, impressive, but not mine.
    I do not stay at many hotels, but my last impression about Grand Hotel Union Ljublja.

    I , personally, have heard of this house before. Thanks to the amazing range of SEBASTIAN, I now have another house I have to put on my “must try” list. I love that Sebastian let us know that the house is actually inspired by the artdeco hotels. I’m highly intrigued by this house, especially this fragrance. The Iris butter sounds beautiful the way he described it with the other notes. Even the logo from the brand is a piece of art. I love in Philadelphia, PA there in the United States and there’s a hotel in historic Old City, PHILADELPHIA called The Bourse. It’s an older hotel and surrounded by the history of the the beginning days of America. So much at and history located close to the Delaware River and it would be amazing to see how they turn that into a scent! Thank you for the opportunity!

    Interesting review! I love all the Corticchiato creations and this one sounds gorgeous! Your synthesis puts the accent on the most sensual aspect of the fragrance and this feature combined with the presence of olfactory notes that I love makes it absolutely attractive. I’d like to suggest to La Parfumeie Moderne a perfume inspired at Mamounia Hotel in Marrakech.

    I enjoyed Sebastian review! This perfume sounds very interesting!! Interesting pyranid. And I like that as Sebastian said this perfume has good lingevity and performance is not monster and non skin scent.
    I like very much Cortcciato’s perfume for Parfume Empire, for example Rabac Tabou, Eau de Glorie, Ambre Russe.

    I have heard of this house, but have not tried anything from them yet. First let me say the color of the bottle is beautiful. What I liked most about Sebastian’s review is the fact that he keeps using the word “sexy” and you can tell he really means it! If this fragrance makes Sebastian react that way, I definitely want to try it! I live in Tennessee. They could do a scent based on The Greenbrier…I think it’s technically a resort though, not sure if it matters.

    I had not heard of the house, but Sebastian’s discussion makes me want to learn more. The discussion of the drydown really intrigued me and makes me want to try this; cedar, vetiver, and musk is a wonderful combination.

    I live in Pennsylvania, where there’s a lush and expensive resort, the Hotel Hershey. It’s based in Moorish architecture, heavily styled, and looks like a Spanish villa. It’s adjacent to a botanical garden full of roses, and it offers falconry lessons to its guests. Being located in Hershey, one of the capitals of chocolate, its spa features botanical scrubs and soaks including chocolate ones. I could picture a floriental with chocolate and rose based on the hotel.

    Sebastian always dissects fragrances to a level of simplicity where it is easy to picture accurately what the fragrance is about and smells. Never tried any from this house but have seen a lot of reviews from the different fragrances they have. Would definitely love to own this as some of my fave note such as bergamot,myrrh and vetiver among others. San Diego USA

    I love how Sebastian describes the fragrance and takes me into a journey through the notes and hotel that inspired it. Absolutely adore how sensual it seems and the bottle is gorgeous! Im originally from the island of a Puerto Rico and there’s a small hotel there in the old capital called El Convento, in front of a church and close to the sea! I would love to see a fragrance trying to capture the colonial architecture, ancient woods, church incense and the salt of the sea in one fragrance! There’s also some Gardenia trees close by! It’s lovely! I would love to try this fragrance! Greetings from Berlin Germany

    I’m really intrigued by the musky Cosmone note, especially as it works with the vetiver and cedar. I love Art Deco, so the bottle is one I’d like in my collection. I also like the hotel concept. I’d recommend a fragrance inspired by the Chelsea Hotel in New York.

    I loved Sebastian’s review of Belles Rives and the love he has for Iris butter. I also appreciate that he described this scent as unisex- why should perfume be limited by gender? Great review. I would love to see a fragrance inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s Palazzo Margherita in Bernalda, Italy. It’s a dream destination for me! I am from Montreal and live in the US.

    I enjoyed Sebastian’s review very much. I loved learning about the note of cosmone. I am not familiar with that note and I find it fascinating to learn about different notes used in perfumery. “Belles Rives” sounds like a fragrance that I would really love. My pick for an old hotel that would be a great inspiration for Parfumerie Moderne would be the Old Winter Palace in Luxor, Egypt. I’m located in the USA.     Sebastian always has honest and in-depth reviewes without being overwhelming. A great hotel would be the haunted hotel in Colorado where they filmed The Shining. The name escapes me right now. I’m located in the USA

    I honestly had no idea the house is creating perfumes with hotels in mind I see perfumes as works of art, an it’s nice to see the idea behind them and to know more about the creation rocess a scent required 🙂

    I live in Romania, EU. And as for the hotel, Hotel Alfonso XIII in Sevile I think would be a nice inspiration for a perfume! 🙂 thanks.
