If you are a regular reader of CaFleureBon, you have noticed we admire the Italian brand Jusbox (pronounced Juice Box-a mashup of “jus” aka perfume and juke box). Marianne Butler and Hernando Courtright attended the USA debut at Bloomingdale’s this past December.  In 2019, we have reviewed JusBox Perfumes No Rules and Beat Cafe.  Siblings Andrea and Chiara Valdo launched the music inspired collection in 2016 and have chosen rock star perfumers including Dominque Ropion,  Antoine Lie and  Julien Rasquinet, ( Iris Cendre  for Naomi Goodsir , Masque Milano Russian Tea for Alessandro Brun and Riccardo Tedeschi,  Histoires de Parfums This is Not a Blue Bottle  to name a few) who signed Jusbox Perfumes Black Powder.

Each fragrance is based on a musical genre or era, and Jusbox Perfumes Black Powder evokes the American 90s grunge scene, when Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots changed the musical landscape. If you enjoy music, tobacco and leather, Jusbox Perfumes Black Powder will spin your world. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Loved this review! So great hearing someone talking so passionately about a new leather, and this sounds right up my alley. I also love the thought of it having a crispness, tartness, and greenness to it from the fruity accents as well! As far as favorite grunge–admittedly it was never my thing growing up (even though I was a child of the 90s), but Nirvana is classic, and I appreciate the inspiration for this.

Thanks for the draw–I’m in the US.

  • Sebastian says this is smokey and that makes sense because the musicians like Cobain were smokers. Sebastian likes the cap too since that looks like a music album and fits the brand story. I am In US

  • Amy Leonhardt says:

The combo of green notes and leather sounds great, and of course I’m a Nirvana fan and want to try this!

  • I first heard of Jusbox from your website . As for Sebastian’s review . Love the idea of music / Fragrance creation. This brand can definitely go along way so many different types of music. The way Sebastian’s describe the notes leather Smoky you see the group and return to the era . If your into music which most of us are this is brilliant. Kurt Kobin definitely started a sound glad he is one of your picks Jusbox.

  • First read of Jusbox a short while on these pages. Would love to win a bottle of this “green leather”. Look forward to seeing what future releases this house brings us. US

  • I just love the bottle but the idea of fruity yet smokey appeals to me. I’ve never tried the house before. I wasn’t a big grunge fan but you have to be hats off to Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam as a forerunner. USA

  • Teresa Meyer says:

Sebastian has a way of describing fragrances that is simply transportative. I love the homage and bit of cheekiness that this scent implies. If we’re getting down to the nitty gritty though, give me a creamy, woody, tobacoo’d down leather any day and I’m a happy heathen.

  • Teresa Meyer says:

I’d also like to say, I’m proud of everyone for resisisting any Smells Like Teen Spirit jokes

  • I heard Sebastian mention that this fragrance smells like green leather. That intrigues me. Please count me in. USA

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

Love the notes! The best for me. Sebastián s review perfect as usual and Id love to win this!
    Miami Florida Thanks

  • Love the presentation but want try this interesting sounding scent……although I prefer Alice In Chains to Nirvana.

  • Sebastian had me at Smoky, buttery!
    Sounds wonderful!
Thanks for the generous giveaway, I live in the U.S.
Nirvana was my favorite Grunge band and I have not tried any of the Jusbox scents.

  • I was very intrigued once Sebastian said Smokey. I love Smokey fragrances and to top it off with leather. Count me in! Presentation is amazing.

  • I’m here in the USA , I just watched Sebastian’s new video & really need to get some Black Powder. Can’t really pinpoint what it was about Sebastian’s review that really got me interested , other than the whole positive feel he gave about Black Powder. I was a hard rocker when Nirvana hit the scene , didn’t really like them at first but really grew to love the band & even liked Courtney’s input , even though Kurt said she was the worst guitar player he’d ever seen hahahhaa . Keep up the good work & I really like the bottle!

  • Nirvana would have been my favorite grunge band. Black Powder sounds like grunge personified. Thanks to Sebastian for a most descriptive “green leather” review. Thanks also for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Without a doubt Nirvana. Have no experience with the house but the scent has to be my cup of tea. Adore leather and tobacco in a frag and that bottle is cool as hell. Sounds utterly fabulous.

  • I smelled this scent (and the entire line) at Como Corso in NYC this weekend and was completely blown away! I ended up with a bottle of another one by Julien, (whose work I ADORE! He has learned so much from his time in Dubai.) Green Bubble but, this was a close second choice. It is so original! It is definitely on my FBW list. Thanks for the chance to win a bottle and for featuring this amazing line. I’m in the US.

  • I love grunge music ! I saw a few of these on Instagram and I think they all sound so interesting. Green leather with fruit sounds amazing.
    Thanks Cafleurebon and Smelling Great

  • I love the notes inspired by grunge that are incorporated in this fragrance such as the leather.

  • I am very intrigue by this house…to say the least. Sebastian review was amazing and he really explains the fragrance so well. The fact that this house is combining music genre with fragrances will be a hit in my mind. I have not tried anything from the house but if I win I will cherish the day. CA, USA. Blessings!

  • Great review! I love leather fragrances. And though I haven’t tried anything from Jusbox, the musical inspiration is intriguing (and I love the packaging). Please enter me in the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I love Kurt Cobain I have a tattoo in honor of him on my body! So Nirvana is definitely my favorite grunge band. After seeing the review, the green and leather mix sounds really great. I’ve never tried anything from this house but after seeing this fragrance on Sebs top 20 leather fragrances list and knowing it’s based on Kurt I need to try it. I live in the USA.

  • Interesting combination of scents in this fragrance! Sabastion intriguing description makes is very likely that I will love this sent. Don’t know this house but of course like all the entrants I hope to. I can imagine it. Want to see if I’m right! Thanks

  • Great review of Jusbox Black Powder. I can appreciate a fragrance brand that was band and musician inspired fragrances. I am also a fan Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. I am also a fan of apple, smoky, green, and leather fragrances. This really sounds like an amazing fragrance.

  • Lara Anderson says:

I adore leather, especially a smoky one, and anything related to Kurt Cobain and Nirvana is a key to my heart. He and they are missed. Excited to try this one as well as the full house. Would really love to try this one!

  • Great review! Love the bottles and the leather sounds so good! Thank you for the insight and opportunity to win a bottle!

  • Fruity with black currant , suede leather , tobacco and frankincense ?
As a biker girl i do know own quite a few leather jackets , so i need to sample Black Powder.
The vinyl looking cap is nice – overall design is top notch.
Thank you Europerfumes for this opportunity . Sebastian did a good job as usual with his review.
    Favorite grunge band? Purl Jam

  • Andrew Walker says:

Haven’t tried Jusbox but love the concept. I really enjoy leather notes in perfume and liked the way Sebastian integrated Nirvana wearing leather/ grunge scene with the leather notes of the fragrance. Also love the bottle. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Oh my! A fragrance inspired by Kurt Cobain is just amazing, what could you ask for more? The review was great as always coming from Sebastian. My favourite legendary group is Red Hot Chili Peppers and i hope to see an inspired fragrance, pretty soon. Thanks for this awesome giveaway.

  • Great video Sebastian. I would love to try the fragrances in this house. They sound so amazing. Thanks, I live in the US.

  • I’m afraid I’m not hugely familiar with grunge music, but like Sebastian, I love the idea of connecting music and perfume (I often do so, unintentionally, when I wear a new scent). I think it’s so cool that they are 78ml bottles! I also love buttery leather scents and this one sounds great. I’d love to give it a try. I’m in the US. Many thanks for the review, video and draw!

  • My first response to reading about the scent was “Can a guy in his 70s get away with wearing this?” After seeing Sebastian’s review, my thought was “Hell, yes!” I am super eager to try it. I don’t have a favorite grunge band (athough I am sure my forty-something kids do), and I haven’t tried other Jusbox fragrances, but would like to. I have a feeling that wearing Black Powder would make me feel young!

  • Great review as always, I love the top notes listed and the freeness of the heart, it sounds divine. I to was a huge fan of Nirvana and would love knowing I was wearing a fragrance inspired by someone whose music has had a deep impact on me. I live in the US.

  • Smoky and at the same time fruity buttery leather i like-sigh me in pls. I do like all the notes.
By the way bottle disigner did a great job – both simplistic and classy at the same time. The cap i really like.
As for Julien Rasquinet – own 20ml decant of Bois d’Ascese by Naomi Goodsir and full bottle of Russian Tea by Masque Milano .
Never been very big on grunge , but i do like some Nirvana songs.I do like Nickelback.
    I already follow@cafleurebon , @jusboxperfumes @lookfeelsmellgreat, @official_europerfumes and also @julienrasquinet .

  • I love the concept that this fragrance is inspired by Kurt Cobain. The scent sounds incredible. And Sebastian does a fantastic job reviewing it. He always makes me want to run out and buy whatever he reviews! I love his description as being a smoky and buttery scent! I’ve never tried anything by JusBox. This would be a perfect one to experience the perfume house.
I did and still do like grunge. The 90’s was a great time for music. My favorite 90’s grunge bands are Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins.
I live in the USA (Pennsylvania).

  • Jusbox has an amazing website. I love seeing their homages to different types of message. I was in my 20s when grunge was popular. I remember hearing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” for the first time. I had never heard anything like it. I moved to Seattle in the mid 90s and enjoyed seeing L7 in concert.
I think the apple is appropriate to Washington State, where Seattle and grunge started. I like that with the buttery leather.
    I live in the USA.

  • Interesting concept and sounds like a good Smokey fragrance. Haven’t tried any of their fragrances. Enjoyed the review by Sebastian like always and thanks. U.S

  • I loved the way Sebastian described the notes as both leather and smokey. That’s a great combination. He explained the fragrance so much that it sparked my interest.
I don’t have any favorite Jusbox Perfumes.

  • I presume Black Powder smells like Teen Spirits 🙂 Really enjoyed mr. Jara review- fruity opening and nice suede leather base . I do like not just the review , the notes, but also the backstory with Nirvana inspiration, but also the bottle. As a child of the 90’s I do remember Nirvana being the best band , but also Soundgarden and Pearl Jam . Thx to all involved in this giveaway. USA

  • Hope im not too late. I tried before and forgot to log in. I love leather scents and sebastians review was nice associating the leather jacket grunge look of nirvana to the smell of the juice. Looking forward to trying out this brand. I hear cheecky smile is very nice as well. Thanks all for the review and giveaway.

  • This sounds too amazing to wrap my head around, lol. Pearl Jam all the way, oh the memories! I would love to win this, thank you for the opportunity! USA 🙂

  • MICAH PATRICK says:

Grunge is the soundtrack of my teen years and young adulthood. When Sebastian revealed the vinyl record lid, I sang Pearl Jams, “Spin, Spin! Spin the black circle!”

When he spoke of the band members wearing leather jackets, I was taken back to age 17, when I wore a black leather motorcycle jacket ( my Dad bought me at the limited) and Tea Rose perfume. I wouldn’t wear one without the other. I thought I was so cool! The way Sebastian described the “green leather” with cannabis and patchouli took me back to Lolapaooza 96 where I saw Soungarden play right before the band split.

Mostly, this review spoke to me because fragrance and music are my life’s two greatest passions. Seeing them paired together using my favorite genre made my heart sing!

  • What strikes me is the fact the line is based on music. Perfume evokes memory and fir me a lot of time memory is associated with music and a time in my life. I love the 90’s and I’m still stuck in the 90’s musically. I love the bottles by this line I love the ideas and love the perfumers. Sebastian does a good job wrapping all of this up in his review. Of the line Black Powder would interest me the most but want to get my nose on all of them.
