July 13, 2014 will be the third time Argentina and Germany have met in the World Cup Finals; Germany won in 1990 and Argentina in 1986; the teams have waited over 14 yrs and 18 yrs respectively which is a very long time. In 2013, twice as many people watched the World Cup than the Super Bowl and it is estimated that the World Cup had a 3.2 billion audience (source Adweek). What is missing from one of the most brutal sports with the most fervent fans?  Certainly not logos, endorsements, broken vertebra, and biting, but great fragrances composed by great perfumers.

Two Friends in Fragrance, Natural Perfumers Roxana Villa of Roxana Illuminated Perfume, who was born in Buenos Aries, Argentina and Berliner Tanja Bochnig of April Aromatics have been corresponding since 2000 and finally met recently in Los Angeles. They adore each other, but we're talking World Cup here. Although both are gentle souls, it is time for serious soccer and the two ladies will be cheering for their home team. There should be a penalty for not smelling fabulous during the most important match in years for both teams. I invited Roxana and Tanja for a CaFleureBon FIFA World Cup scent smackdown.-Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief (Vamos vamos Argentina)

"I grew up with soccer. It’s so big in Germany and I remember my parents watching it when we were little. Whole neighborhoods turn absolutely into ghost towns, when the World Cup is on… I am choosing Calling all Angels, to support the German players, because of the many "earthy" ingredients it contains. It helps them to stay grounded and to take in the supportive energy of the earth. The fiery components like *labdanum can help them to keep up their energies throughout a 90 minute game or longer. The *frankincense, (etheric and airy components), adds a connection to the higher realms, to remind them that even if they play against each other, we are all connected as ONE. The added *rose oil can help them to play fair and from their hearts and respect their fellow players. And lastly the *sweet honey and *vanilla components will help to see the rough game "SWEET". There is always sweetness somewhere in life, we just have to find it and enjoy it. Calling all Angels was a winner perfume in the 2014 olfaction awards, may it help the Germans to win in a fair way. What I like about the German team is their true TEAM SPIRIT, playing as one.  I think by the way, that Argentinian men are the most gorgeous in the whole world…(and the women like Roxana and Michelyn are beautiful)"–Tanja Bochnig, April Aromatics

"The game of soccer is encoded in my DNA by default of being from Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a child, before the local matches became overly heated, I attended games between the two local rivals Boca Juniors and Riverplate. These two teams have origins from the historical downtown area of La Boca close to where my great grandfather had his Homeopathic apothecary “Farmacia de la Estrella”.  The upcoming World Cup match has me contemplating the vital component found within games requiring two teams. In order for the game to take place the important ingredient is the combination of two dynamic forces, each vitally important to the other. Like the *honey bee and the *orange blossom, the hexagon patterned ball of soccer seeks the goal. I’ve chosen Blossom Eau de Cologne for this auspicious pairing since the fragrance was inspired from Colonia de Bebe, a refreshing citrus splash that for special occasions the children of the family were all spritzed with. The *Neroli rich cologne was produced by my great grandfather’s company and is no longer available, thus in 2008 I recreated it as Blossom. The rich floral heart of the fragrance will keep Argentina focused on their core while the citrus keeps them uplifted and the cistus in the base anchors them to the here and now. Since the cologne is meant to rejuvenate I suggest spritzing often as a refreshing tonic.

My gratitude to Michelyn for including me here and pairing me with Tanja, who is one of my very favorite natural perfumers who besides sharing a similar palette and aesthetic, we also share the task of being mothers of beautiful and inspiring daughters. Whichever team wins or loses, I am the richer for knowing both Tanja and Michelyn" Roxana Villa, Illuminated Perfume

  • Germany of course!!! Score 3-2 Germany!!! Calling all Angels…..I have been dying to try this. May the luck be with me and the German Team 🙂

  • ok, i am going to vote for Germany, but only because i have yet to try April Aromatics.

(asking to choose between the perfumers is like asking me which hand i like better.)

so, Calling All Angels (gonna put the Jane Siberry song on now) & Germany to win.

i will venture a guess of 3 to 1 final score (although i don’t have any idea how many goals are average for a soccer game).

thank you ladies for making sports interesting! and thank you CFB for another delightful draw!

  • I haven’t really followed FIFA but I am going to say Argentina will win thanks to Messi 😉 score 3-2. No disregard for either team… I love looking at fine specimens 😉 I would love Blossom, no disregard here either as I have Calling All Angels.. Good luck to both teams on Sunday… I love the creative thinking of the EIC…. Shared on FB and Twitted…

  • A Super Moon full in Capricorn this weekend 🙂 I am pulling for Germany. Calling All Angels would be such a wonderful birthday month bonus! Score: 3-1

  • Go Argentina! I adore Tanja and would love a bottle of Calling all Angels. 🙂 Although, not sure if I am allowed to enter this draw. Thanks so much to you Michelyn and my soul sister in perfume Tanja. Love you both.

  • I’m not sure yet which team I’m gonna cheer for, but I am sure I would love to win Calling all Angels! I’m in the Netherlands.
(if I *have* to choose, I guess it will be Argentina, because then we would have lost to the world champion….which makes it a little better…)

  • I hope Argentina will win,
I guess Germany will have the cup, I’m afraid-one has to be reallistic
I’m international and wish for “Calling all Angels”
    thank you

  • I hope the team that plays the most beautiful game will win. The last games have been boring because they all played overly defensive.
I am in the EU and would love to win Calling all Angels.
    Thanks!

  • Jeannie 07 says:

I believe that Germany will win (3-2 score in favor of Germany). However Argentina will give its fight and will be a hard to win rival.
I live in EU and if I win I would love to try Calling all Angels.
Thank you for this lovely draw.

  • I live nearby the border of Germany and of course I would love Germany to win. The end score will be 3-1.

    I live in Europe.

  • Ha, this is fun, thanks for the draw! I am a Thomas Müller fan, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Germany and I like what Tanja Bochnig wrote about the team spirit (and the Argentinian men…). I would love a bottle of Calling all Angels! And Blossom Eau de Cologne goes on my to try list, a refreshing neroli tonic sounds wonderful.
    I am in the EU.

  • I am an American who was born in Germany, so I must root for Germany! However, both fragrances sound lovely, along with the ladies who made them. I would love to win Calling All Angels. I was lucky enough to win Unter den Linden last year and am enjoying this wonderful linden fragrance. My prediction is 3 – 1 for the score.

  • Great post!! Germany all the way 🙂 4:2 I would so love to try Calling All Angels 🙂 I am in the US. Thank You.

  • julesinrose says:

Calling All Angels sounds so insanely gorgeous! I’d love to win it! I am rooting for Argentina, though. 3-2? I dunno! Great draw. Great scents and I love Tanja’s sentiments about the game. Cheers! 🙂

  • taffynteddy+1 says:

I am taking a guess I think that Germany will edge out Argentina 3-2 and my choice is calling all angels it sounds divine I live in the US thanks again

  • I am rooting for Germany, but think Argentina may surprise everyone. I say it will come down to penalty kicks, and Argentina wins it 0-0 (4-3)

Calling all Angels sounds like my exact cup of tea, but I am unable to resist the idea of having a recreation of Roxanna’s great-grandfather’s eau de cologne, even though orange blossom and I don’t usually get along very well!

I would give anything to have my own grandparents back again, so perhaps I can borrow a little of Roxanna’s….

Thank you Tanja and Roxanne and Cafleurbon for such a fun draw!

  • This is great post as my sons are divided between both Germany and Argentina. It’s very nice that these two perfumers are friends not foes
I am going for Argentina 2-1 and my choice is Roxana illuminated blossom
    Great idea for a story

  • I am supporting Germany because I have 3 German friends here, and my Great Grandmother was German, so go Germany!! And I would love to win Calling All Angels by Tanja Bochnig as she is such a beautiful soul.

  • silvrolive says:

I am thinking Argentina 4-3. I would love to try Calling All Angels. I live in the US. Thanks for the amazing draw!

  • I think Argentina, 2-1. I would like to try Blossom even though both sound appealing. I live in the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • ChristineB says:

I’ll be supporting Germany and I predict the score will be 1-0 to them. I would like to win Calling All Angels and I live in the UK. Thank you for this draw!

  • I hope Germany wins, 2-1, and I would love to win Calling all Angels. I live in US. Thanks a lot for this draw!

  • I would love to win April Aromatics Calling All Angels, and thus will go with Germany, let’s say 4-2. Tweeted and will post on FB as well! I’m in the U.S.

  • USA

  • I’m in EU and I hope Germany will be the winner. (3-1)
My choice is Calling All Angels.
    Thanks! Lubka

  • Laurentiu says:

I am with Germany! 1-1 after the 90 minutes and Germany will win in the extra time.

I live in Eu and my pick is Calling all Angels. Thanks!

  • I hope Germany will win 3-2. This maybe the only game of the entire world cup I have watched (not a football fan!).

I would like to win Calling all Angels. I live in Europe. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • I am in the US and would love to win Roxanna’s Blossom Cologne. I have to root for Germany or my German friends would disown me! I predict Germany 4 Argentina 2.

  • Fazal Cheema says:

my choice will be Calling All Angels..the three teams i have been supporting since the beginning of the tournament are Germany, France, and Netherlands but only one didnt disappoint me so it’s my choice in the finals as well..My prediction is that Germany will win by 3-1 over Argentina..today i expect Argentina’s weaknesses to be exposed because teams overall have not been impressive in this world cup so a good team like Germany will show Argentina is not as good as some think. I am in the US

  • I’m rooting for Argentina to win (let’s say 3-2), but my choice of perfume would be Calling all Angels. Much as I love the scent of orange blossoms, your review referencing Wings of Desire was irresistible. I’m in the US.
