In 2012, Creative Director Christopher Chong of Amouage was the first to be featured in our Creative Directors in Perfumery series because he is one of the most passionate, multifaceted, and focused Creative Directors of the past decade; he is involved in every aspect of Amouage perfumes from brief to bottle.

Whilst every Amouage perfume has a story behind it,  Memoir Man is one of the most fascinating.  According to this exclusive quote from Christopher, “The story behind Memoir Man is inspired by the 19th century subculture of the flâneur participating in an underworld of decadent activities after a drinking spree of absinthe.  I’m playing with a contrast of hyperrealism and hallucination.”

Another awesome review and giveaway! I have a sample of Memoir Man which I like and winning a full bottle would be awesome addition to my collection. From San Diego here!

  • Great review man, i’d love to have a bottle of this to add to my colection!, pretty straight foward!

  • Oh, I love this fragrance–my favorite of the ones I’ve tried from Amouage (with Jubilation XXV a close second). Sebastian’s reviews are always entertaining and informative; I love the base notes, however–that rich, forest-floor woodiness. I’m a subscriber to LFSG and live in the US.

  • I always enjoy how descriptive Sebastian is with his reviews. I have tried Reflection man from the Amouage line. I like the ashy smell that it has. However, I did not get the longevity that I have heard about from a lot people. Alabama!

  • Miloš Momčilović says:

I have a small decant of this and it is my second favorite Amouage. First has to be Reflection man, it is more diverse and applicable for almost any occasion. You can say more ”mainstream”, but Memoir man is more unique and because of that tobacco-absent drydown note I think it is manlier and really better choice for night at the bar for example, or some situations where you wear leather jacket and want to feel like a rock star 🙂 I like it a lot, and would be really happy to win this bottle!

  • I liked the description of the herbal quality and the fact it doesn’t necessarily project like a beast. Softer projection makes it more versatile for me. I live in Ohio.

  • I always love Sebastian’s reviews. Memoir is a wonderful fragrances and I would be very interested in getting my nose on the current formulation as I have only ever had my node on the vintage juice. I love the green yet smokey qualities of the the fragrance that come from the mint, absinthe, tobacco, and incense. Just a gorgeous luxurious fragrance.

  • I enjoy the format/length of Sebastian’s reviews and also, unlike many people, I like when someone puts a fragrance into a “picture” like he did with this one. We won’t all get the same notes based on our nose and skin, but I feel like we can “see” the same “picture” more so I enjoy that. My favorite Amouage ones are Jubilation and Reflection Man. I’d love to win cause’ Memoir is one of the very few Amouage’s I have yet to try. Thanks 🙂

  • I really enjoyed this review. All that stuff about rolling around in the herbs! I haven’t appreciated herbal fragrances all that much, and I love the dark and woody ones. So, I’m intrigued by this one, as I’ve recently been wearing some fougeres and enjoying them, but my first love will always be ambers. MY favorite Amouage is Jubilation XXV.

  • I enjoyed hearing the detailed analysis of the development of the perfume through it’s stages and what notes were present and what they were doing. Lyric Man remains a personal favorite of mine. USA

  • buraktemiz93 says:

I love the brand. I used to own Reflection man but I kind a got tired of it. I currently own Jubilation 25, Interlude man and Ciel man. All are amazing fragrances and in my opinion, Jubilation 25 is their best fragrance. I love this brand and how they mix the fragrances. Every fragrance from their line up confuses your nose with the complexity and mixture. Memoir man is one of their green incense fragrances which I’ve tried couple years ago and I remember very liking it but I picked up the Interlude man at that time. Thanks so much for the giveaway as always.

  • Stevie Reds says:

Sebastian always gives honest reviews and the same holds true here. I’ve only had the chance to smell three Amouage fragrances and this was my favorite. I’m not in the position to spend retail prices for any of the Amouage line so I hope I win!!

  • SirBlastmore says:

Fantastic review and what an awesome giveaway! I have a sample and love it! A full bottle…pick me pick me!

  • Love Sebastian’s reviews. He has such an incredible wardrobe, I always trust his reviews. While I have yet to try Memoir, I would love to as incense and fourgeres are two of my favorite genres, and this sounds like an interesting mix of both. Jubilation XXV has always been a favorite of mine from the line, but Honour Man is high up there as well. Probably the most underrated.

  • Grant Dungee says:

I’d love to have a bottle of this, the notes sound interesting. I don’t have anything from this house yet, hopefully this will be my first!

  • fazalcheema says:

Sebastian mentions it has absinthe which was used by Olivia in her :’Artisan fou d’absinthe, too. but Memoir Man sounds different due to herbal and green notes and it also has lavendar. My favorite Amouage is Amouage Gold for Women though I also enjoy Interlude Man and Epic Man. Thanks for the draw. I am in the US

  • Nice n short review by Sebastian.
I do like a lot of amouage offerings n how unique they smell.
This one seems no different. Complex n not linear at all.
It has also frankincense as many of this house famous fragrances have.

Hopefully, I can win it n put my nose on it.

Thanks Cafleurbon n Sebastian for this giveaway.

  • epicdermis says:

One of the very best green fragrances around, I hope to own it one day. Incredibly unique.

  • Sebastian is one of my favorite reviewers on Youtube and I find I generally trust/like most of his recommendations. Just so happened I received a sample of Memoir Man yesterday and put it on just before watching Sebastian’s video. Favorite Amouage would be Dia Man but I liked what I smelled if Memoir today. Thanks Cafleurebon and Sebastian.

  • Jason Aldrich says:

I love Sebastian’s reviews because he tells it like it is. He breaks down the notes and gives an accurate description of how the fragrance smells and its performance. My favorite Amouage is Epic Man. I would love to win this contest because Amouage is a brand hard to find in my area.

  • Sebastian’s description of the green garden juices flowing got my attention. My favorite amouage is jubilation xxv. Have not smelled memoir man and I love incense/ green/ vanilla fragrances. Thx for the opportunity.

  • meyers1234 says:

How Sebastian explains the fragrance as a place and not just how it smells. Never tried would be a First if I won. From Oklahoma

  • Kaung Htet Kyaw says:

Love Sebastian’s reviews. He always goes into detail and his opinions on the fragrances are on point. He is the man. Amouage, my favorite house, along with Jubilation XXV. YEAH!

  • Lawton Jeffcoat says:

The image you invoked remunded me of a gothic frolic in the forest surrounded by fresh herbs and dense woods!
    Very interesting.

Thank you Sebastian for the video and cafleurebon for this giveaway.

    Kind regards, Lj

  • Edward Gurango says:

I like Jubilation XXV but have never smelled this one. The review makes me curious about it. USA

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Loved the review! I agree with Sebastian that the herbal notes are really what initially drew me to this fragrance. Loved how he referred it to a green herbal “cocktail.” All those herby notes remind me of a well-crafted aromatic alcoholic drink almost! I am a fan of many Amouages, from Gold to the dense and smoky Tribute…one of my favorite purchases. I’d love to win this because I already know I’m a huge fan of Memoir Man! Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • Saba, is a good reviewer I enjoy his reviews alot.
I have always wanted to have one of amoage frag.
    Thank you.

  • I own 3 Amouage fragrances and I love all of them. Each one is unique in its own way and there’s not really any Amouage clones. My favorite is Reflection Man but I do also own and love Interlude and lyric. And I loved the honest review as always Sebastian!

  • mz.647crtz says:

I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews because of his honesty. I would really love to get my nose on this Amouage. This would be my first actually, and it seems looks something I’d really enjoy. Cheers and thanks for the giveaway!

  • concertslover says:

The video review is a nice touch. I particularly liked the fact that he kept referring to the scent as being a herbal one at the top. I always find it fascinating when a perfumer can do an herbal or earthy scent right since it seems to be more difficult to do for people to enjoy. I have always wanted to try a fragrance from Amouage, however near me there is no way to sample one and its difficult to blind buy more expensive fragrances.
    I am from USA, thanks.

  • Alex Mera says:

I like Sebastian’s youtube chanel , and seen all his video by now 🙂 I like how he describes all his fragrances and his honest opinion about this expensive hobby.
I never sniffed a Amouage fragrance before , but I woul love to try : Reflection Man and finally but not least Memoir Man ! I think these 2 fragrances would suit my personality very much. Subtle and yet complex. I’m a big fan of aromatic fougere fragrances , especially YSL Rive Gauche.
Thank you for the generous giveaway ! Good luck everybody !
I’m US based for this summer !

  • This is one of my absolute favs from Amouage. I love how you captured the herbal notes. While I don’t own this, but would like to, I have a small sample and love the absinthe note. My skin pulls it out like its floating on the air. Very nice. Thanks for a great opprotunity to own the aromatic treasure. In the USA.

  • I have tried many Amousges and my all time favorite is Amouage interlude man with a close tie to Jubilation 25
Even though Sebastian liked the top and mid notes I think the base notes appealed to me although I don’t know what absinthe smells like

    Lol
Thank you for the explanation of what inspired the frag too
Christopher Chong really seems very smart and involved
    I live in Indiana

  • I would love to try that green herbal cocktail opening! I am not that familiar with the Amouage line so do not have a favorite. I live in Texas. Thanks for the draw.

  • Diana Devlin says:

I haven’t smelled any scents from this perfume house. But Sebastian’s review has me wanting to try it. It sounds beautiful and I like that it wears close to the skin. It sounds like the type of fragrance that should stay close and quiet on the body. I live in the U.S.

  • princemojo says:

Love all Sebastian’s reviews. His taste is excellent. Interlude man is my favorite Amouge. My next Amouge was going to be memoir or epic, so naturally I’d love to win the me,or. Love absinthe notes, I wear fou d’absinthe by L’artisan often.

  • Ruben Lopez says:

I’ve never owned or have I had the privilege to smell any Amouage fragrances . The notes sound very interesting and seem to match my style of scents. I enjoy watching Sebastian’s reviews he has an extensive knowledge and experience in fragrances.

  • Good description of the fragrance as it develops. I’ve tried a sample and it’s definitely one of the more unique Amouages. I enjoy the herbal notes in the fragrance.

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

This is Awesome. Wonderful review & well described by Sebastian Jara. Amouage Memoir Man is my cousin’s signature scent. I have sampled the Amouage Memoir Man & what will be a surprise addition to my Amouage collection if I win the draw. I love wearing Interlude Man, Gold, Epic Man and Jubilation 25.
Thanks for the gorgeous giveaway & I am participating by giving my relative/friend address in NY.

  • Kevin Liu says:

I enjoy the accuracy and depth of sebastions reviews! I don’t own any scents from the house, and thats why I’d love to win!

  • I really enjoyed Sebastian’s review of Amouage Memoir Man. I have 2 favorite Amouage favorites Reflection Man and Jubilation 25 Man. I would like to win and add this fragrance to my Amouage collection.

  • Sebastian always has informative fragrance reviews. His review of Amouage Memoir Man was top shelf. I’ve never had the opportunity to get my nose on an Amouage fragrance, Memoir Man would be a good start.
    Cheers …

  • apagan4182 says:

As usual, I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. The herbal green notes makes this sound like a winner. I really love Jubilation 25, and would like to try out others from the Amouage house.

  • Paulie Peanuts says:

I don’t own any niche fragrances so this would be very welcome. I been watching Sebastian for awhile and he is a very level headed, cool, calm and collected individual. :::: keeps fingers crossed:::: Mamma needs a new pair of shoes.
    regards
    Paulie Peanuts

  • Intriguing. and if it brings Sebastian to be motivated or seems like rolling in an herb garden Im in:) I haven’t tried too many Amouages but my favorite so far is Jubilation XXV:) Would love to try this…a lot:) I live in the USA

  • Very interesting review. I really like the depth and authenticity that Sebastian presents in this review. I’m very interested inn this fragrance.

  • Sebastian’s reviewing style is great and honest. My favorite amouage is interlude man andI would like to try interlude man cause i like incense and heard a lot about this fragrance.

  • Anmol.deep says:

Reviews of Sabastian are great. I love the way he present the details of fragrance in proper parts in the video. I’ve never tried any Amouage fragrance. (Never got hands on and they are on expensive side) so I wanna try this fragrance. What’s bad about smelling something good hahaha? Anyways, great giveaway.

  • I loved that Sebastian has the same taste as me on this fragrance,my fav fragrance from the house is reflection followed by this memoir, and I would love to win this one as my decant is almost gone

  • Many of Sebastian’s tastes echo my own, and yet I have never tried this particular neo-classic niche lovely…but have a very deep appreciation of each and every Amouage I have experienced; which is why I would like to win a full “sword” style obsidian glass bottle.

I live in the USA and found Sebastian’s friendly demeanor and no nonsense style plus the editing and all made it fell produced but still intimate; much like I osmagine Memoir to be.

Thanks to Cafleurebon, as always, to Sebastian for his insights and to Europerfumes for their kindness & generosity!

  • I enjoyed the way Sebastian broke down the fragrance and explain his overall opinion on it. He left with a good understanding about the fragrace overall. As far as my favorite from the line, I’d have to say Lyric Man. Ifbi could pick 2 favorites then Interlude Man would be right up there.

  • yoga_fyah says:

Really enjoyed Sebastian’s review. I’ve only tried 2 Amouages and Memoir Man sounds very interesting. I’m in Florida!

  • jeremyn87 says:

I liked his description of how the scent evolves like a journey from green to a more foresty smell. Makes the fragrance sound introspective

  • What I like about Sebastian’s review is the emphasis on two things: 1) absynthe, which is the dominant note in this fragrances, and 2) the honest description of the longevity. I bought the Amouage sampler and for Father’s Day, my family and I sat down and ranked them. Jubilation was first, memoir was second, and interlude was third. All the best, elbenja

  • John Troyer says:

I love Sebastian’s review because of his usual detailed and gentlemanly style. My favorite from amouage is Reflection Man and I’m from VA, USA and would love to win this giveaway.

  • Camden Snyder says:

Love LFSM reviews and I don’t have any Amouge so I would love to try some out.
