Invitations to Spring/ Summer 2014 Fashion Shows are already filling our inbox , but we are looking forward to the pleasures of recreating the key looks we loved from the Fall 2013 collections.  On the fashion calendar,  Fall is the time of year fashion gets serious, with runway shows, trend reports, and investment pieces.  Whatever your sense of style, reinforcing your look with a mood enhancing fragrance "turns it up a notch", to borrow a phrase from fashion godfather Tim Gunn.

Fall Fashion Modern Goddess CaFleureBon

Georges Chakra Haute Couture Fall 2013, Tommi Sooni Jinx 2011

When it’s time to pull out all the stops and leave mere mortals in your dust, this Georges Chakra Haute Couture gown stands out with its on-trend black and white graphics, single shoulder and sultry draping reminiscent of Old Hollywood glamour.  Match it with a fragrance that turns heads and all your conquests will be willing sacrifices.

Australian fashion designer Vanessa Leyjonhelm is the muse for Tommi Sooni Jinx,  a stunning soft green floral with  gracious Grecian style that evokes the bloodlines of its muse. Notes of fig, basil, aldehydes, ambergris and white florals pay tribute to the Queens of Olympus and the classic chic of the great French Houses. It's vintage vibe is elegant and mesmerizing, bringing to mind the beauty of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. Even its name sounds like a Hitchcock movie.

Fall Fashion Biker Chic CaFleureBon

Matchless Fall 2013, Carnival Wax Pirate’s Dream 2009

Black leather jackets and tight jeans have been synonymous with cool since the 1950’s.  Sexy but tough and symbolizing the mystique of the rebel and the romance of the open road, biker chic is the perfect look when you need to run roughshod over the competition.

Carnival Wax Pirate’s Dream may take its inspiration from Captain Jack, but it would be perfectly at home on a debutante slumming in a dark corner of a biker bar.  With notes of sweet and salty brine, smoke, wood, and vanilla tobacco, it starts out smelling like an ashtray put out by pouring whiskey on it.  When it mellows into expensive driving gloves, hard candy, and high end lipstick, it makes you realize that Pirate’s Dream is one hell of a ride.

Classic Prep

Fall Fashion Classic Prep CaFleureBon

Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2013, Atelier Cologne Sur Le Toit De Paris 2012

The classic prep look is fundamental to fall fashion largely because of its connection with Back to School.  Deceptively casual, this look’s sense of style lies in its crisp details: a starched white shirt, a tailored peacoat, a collar of the perfect width.  Don these duds for a trip back in time to that first fall semester when the future was an open book.

Preppy style has strong undercurrents of money and class, and so does Atelier Cologne’s Sur Le Toit De ParisIt smells like the world’s most expensive laundry detergent, as if instead of having to wash clothes in the dorm basement, your servants delivered them to you in a huge wicker basket after line-drying them in a field full of violets.

Fall Fashion Military Romance CaFleureBon

Dolce & Gabanna Fall 2013, Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles 2009

Full military dress was so much more romantic in previous centuries, but designers like Dolce & Gabanna are reviving that opulent feel with luxurious fabrics and heavy brocades that would feel at home in the drawing room of a palace.  The look is very mannered, but to have credibility it requires a fragrance that projects some strength.

Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles opens with a trek through a pine forest, stops at a campfire near the side of a road with diesel engines in the distance, and ends up in the palace where the soldier, after being decorated, is treated to sumptuous desserts.  The name translates as “Girl in Heels,” and you can hear the connection between the drums of a military march and the click-click of stilettos on a hardwood floor.

Fall Fashion Wild Western CaFLeureBon

Le Labo Santal 33 2011,Guess Fall 2013 Denim Collection

Big sky country, wide open plains and desert hues mixed with faded blues are the hallmarks of wild western style.  Wear your most distressed jeans with a suede Stetson and you’re ready to walk off into the sunset.

Western gear is both relaxed and sexy, a feel that goes perfectly with Le Labo’s Santal 33.  The delicious dry heat of the desert, stories around a smoky campfire,  violet and iris as smooth as your favorite chambray shirt, well-worn leather and a fistful of spice make for a standout unisex scent that’s as signature as a custom made pair of hand-tooled boots.

  • I suppose every guy has a dream of either being a biker or a cowboy at some point, and since I have a bike I will choose the cowboy dream style with a roughneck appearance and riding a horse…along that lines I will also choose the Santal 33 from Le Lobo…
    From the USA. Thank You.

  • Style Classic Prep Fragrances, Carnival Wax Pirates Dream and Serge Lutens Fille En Aiguilles

  • I live in the US and my dream look is the biker one. And I’ll choose Santal 33 . Thanks!

  • Steve Porkpie Hat Johnson says:

Oh man – Tommi Sooni’s Jinx! Such a fantastic choice. For those who believe that perfume should have never left the gold-tiled halls of Guerlain and the smart, short bob of Vintage Chanel. Effervescent, ultra-chic and shot out of the Wayback Machine, Jinx rules the school.

And a nice contrast with the Serge Lutens. For the daring rake who can get Audrey Hepburn out of her heels and into a pair of khaki shorts and a flannel shirt to go dig for wild shrooms out in the forest.

For me – my fashion is like an irradiated version of American Gothic. I wear pajama tops and overalls together and rock it like a Martian invasion.

  • I loved this piece…I think that every single trend you spotlighted are in my must have or already in my closet.
Tommi Sooni Jinx for me! Who wouldn’t want to feel like Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn. I read the non blonde’s review and have been lusting ever since

  • Tommi Sooni’s Jinx sounds so amazing (I’m already madly in love with Tarantella). But I think the Biker Chic trend is more my style, sartorially. Thanks as ever for the draw!

  • As a Gemini, I have a personality that can swing both ways. My two favourite styles are polar opposites, Biker Chic and Modern Goddess. I love looking and feeling glamorous from time to time with big, flowy dresses, but I like a casual attire of jeans and a jacket every other day.

My favourite fragrance, the one I would most like to win is Le Labo’s Santal 33. I tested it a few years ago and remember loving it.

    Thanks for the draw!

  • Military Romance sounds like steampunk awesomeness… that’s what I see when I read this amazing review, and that’s what I’d love to wear.

    Welcome to Nancy Knows!

  • leathermountain says:

Wild Western, and yet…. Jinx. I like your pairings and cannot explain my mismatch.

  • wow.. this is a cool little groove of a contest. I am a huge fan of statement dresses.. so Chakra is definitely got my eye but I would change the color and that would inherently change the presentation.
LOVE LOVE LOVE that leather look – BIKER CHIC is definitely in my wardrobe- the fragrances sounds perfect ..
The Military Romance– I have a couple of jackets (and would like a couple more) that look a bit like that.. but I would kill for the jacket.. but the fragrance sounds more desserty than smoky.. but I could be wrong.
While I live in a desert of sorts and definitely as far west as you can get without going into the water.. I wear a lot of jeans, boots and the like and I love burnt marshmallows and the smell of great wood burning is one key ( of many) to my heart.. and I love Le Labo’s concept of capturing the essence .. because whether you are wearing chambray or hoodies and bathing jean cutoff shorts.. this sounds like a fragrance I would definitely wear.. (since today I wore something from Ulrich Lang — I am all about unisex scents)
Count me in on Le Labo. Sorrty to be so long-winded

  • I love it! My dream look is modern goddess, but my dream scent is Le Labo Santal 33. I’d love to win this! Thanks for the draw, I am located in the U.S.

  • Oops! I made a mistake — I should read more carefully! I love that Le Labo Santal 33 describes my style now… which could also works with the wild west steamship captain in my head! Wish I could edit my old remark — sorry!

  • My dream style would definitely be the modern goddess and the fragrance would be Tommi Sooni Jinx. Generally I am more dressed down, but would love to wear a gorgeous gown like the Georges Chakra Haute Couture Fall 2013 gown. Stunning. Then again I think I have a secret want to be Biker Chic living inside me also 😉

  • julesinrose says:

Military Romance for me ’cause that Dolce & Gabbana brocade and detail laden clothing rocks my world! I’d like it even better with Le Labo’s Santal 33 (a scent I’ve been wanting to try!) Still in the US. . .thanks for a fab draw!

  • I love the Classic Prep look and am a huge Le Labo fan so I would choose Santal 33. I am in the U.S.. Thanks for the draw!

  • In my dreams I would have an event to go to where I could wear the gorgeous designer gown. However, in real life in Seattle, my style is about 50% biker chic (black leather jacket year round!) 10% cowboy, <5% b/w graphic and pseudo-miliatry combined, and 35% other (bohemian, goth, runner-jock, farmer, neo-hippie, and just plain unclassifiable). Classic preppie is definitely NOT me!

To win, I would pick Tommi Sooni Jinx, so I guess I'm just a diva at heart.

  • wefadetogray says:

I am not sure I can say any of these styles is my dream one but I can imagine myself with Georges Chakra’s dress for a special dinner perhaps in Mykonos; Tommi Sooni’s Jinx seems to be the perfect scent for this imaginary greek gala 🙂
    Thanks for the draw

  • My dreams are of the modern ‘princess’ look up top. Glam and chic. And my dream scent with it is Tommi Sooni Jinx. I am in the U.S. thanks for the draw.

  • None of the “looks” is quite right for me, but I do love the black and white graphic prints. Tommi Sooni Jinx sounds wonderful! Thanks for the draw.

  • The two looks that appeal to me most are Modern Goddess and Biker Chic, so put me down for the Tommi Sooni Jinx, please! (I do live in the US.) Thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • Excellent review by Nancy Knows!

The look I like and the perfume hopefully won’t clash but I am drawn to Biker Chic with Tommi Sooni Jinx. I also like those graphic prints; one could hide a lot of flaws!

  • I am generally drawn to clothing that is flowing and pretty and effortless, but I am also taken in by a great great print. I love the first photo of the graphic designs. It’s like wearing art.
I’d love to win Santal 33. I’m in the US.

  • Dubaiscents says:

I wish I had somewhere to go to wear the Modern Goddess dress, it is gorgeous! I would love to win the Santal 33 though. (US)

  • Fazal Cheema says:

my style is Biker Chic among the ones listed but my ideal style would be something along the lines of dresses seen in the Great Gatsby and Madmen..my choice is Le Labo Santal 33, hoping it gives tough competition to my favorite sandalwood fragrance, vintage Samsara…I am based in the U.S.

  • Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles 2009. would be perfume choice i think would smell really different, and Le Labo’s Santal 33-i go for the distressed look, which i love and have been wearing for years already. Thanks for the drawing!

  • maysamassimo says:

Hi! My dream style is definetely Georges Chakra’s Modern Goddess and the fragrance is Tommi Sooni Jinx.
    Thanks!

  • Fabulous post and pics, thanks for the eye candy! The sumptuous fabrics of Military Romance beckon me, as does the classic appeal of Biker Chic, vintage version. Modern Goddess is a beautiful aspiration, so Tommi Sooni Jinx is my choice.

  • Greetings to Nancy! This is a fun post! My dream style is Modern Goddess. I would have to choose Tommi Soon Jinx. I live in the US.
    thanks for the draw!

  • My everyday look is biker chic, but I dream of the georges chakra gown and of winning Tommi Sooni jinx. Thank you Cafleurebon for a perfumista Vogue.

  • I love all of these styles, but my dream style is the Modern Goddess…would love an occasion to wear that gorgeous gown. Tommi Soon Jinx. I live in the USA.

  • Welcome Nancy! I would like my style to be Biker Chic, but I just don’t have what it takes to pull that one off. I would love to try the Jinx. I keep hearing marvelous things about Tommi Sooni.

  • I like classic prep, and elements of biker chic. I’m most intrigued by Le Labo Santal 33. I am in the US. Thank you!

  • My look is Biker Chic, and the Carnival Pirate’s Wax sounds intriguing, as I have never heard of this line!

  • Santal 33 sounds fantastic to me! I’m not sure I can choose between these styles: I like the worn jeans of the cowboy and the rebellious independence of the biker chic, though I would slant it gothic! Preppy is strictly for when I need to make an impression, am interviewing for a job, for instance:)

  • susie frankel says:

I’ve been to BIG SKY COUNTRY many many times, I live in the desert, no prep school for me, and I sat on the back of a Harley on many, many CA back roads rides….however, I have never been to Paris so Toomi Sooni Jinx for me.
    Peace not war my friend.

  • I’ve always been fond of the Wild West even as a child. So, Wild Western is the obvious choice for me. I would choose Le Labo’s Santal 33, I think this would be a great match. I’m located in the USA. Thank you again for the giveaways!

  • soupersusan says:

Oh, I am an idiosyncratic graphical girl, and I love all three of those first looks. The Georges Chakra goddess, not so much, though the combination of the graphical print and the flowing lines is very appealing. But I would wear Santal 33 with any of them. Thank you so much for the drawing! (I’m in the US.)

  • That black leather jacket photo is kinda it.
    I choose Le Labo’s Santal 33. U.S. Thanks.

  • The modern goddess picture is absolutely beautiful, and I wish I looked like that so…I guess that would be my dream style! I am in the USA, and I would love Le Labo Santal 33. Thank you!

  • I like the Biker Chic. (And a couple of others, really.) As for the fragrance, definitely the Tommi Sooni!

  • Given that I’ve just finished my first week of college at Yale, I feel obliged to say ‘preppy’. But of course, Biker Chic (because who doesn’t love Marlon Brando) and Western (because John Wayne and Clint Eastwood are also fantastic). I pick Santal 33.

  • My dream look is modern goddess, but I’m probably closer to dressing preppy or in western wear for everyday. Jinx sounds amazing and I would be thrilled to win. Thanks!

  • Maybe not exactly a dream, more of taking a stroll down memory lane with the Classic Prep style, once you get a career you definitely miss those college days.
Of the 2 I would like to try Santal 33.
    From the USA. Thank You

  • Wild Western would be my style. Comfortable and sexy at the same time with leather boots, white shirt and faded blue jeans . Of the scents I would like to try Santal 33. Sounds like something I’d probably like.

  • Being from Oklahoma Wranglers, leather boots attire is a common normal in one way or another. The Santal 33 sounds so appealing as a fragrance. In the USA.
