Franck Salzwedl Creative Director and Founder of Elisire

“A cosmos of sensations. A stellar constellation in a remote place where it feels and smells like paradis. An extraordinary journey of senses, into the open, the grand and the exotic.” – Franck Salzwedel, Creative Director and  Founder of Elisire

Elisire  is a luxury perfume collection founded by Franck Salzwedel,  who was born in France, but raised in Asia. His first encounter with fragrance was on a plane to Jakarta where small vials of magic were distributed in individual sachets; since then his world had never been the same. After studying at the French Fashion Institute in Paris, Franck realized his life path was to pursue his passion for fragrance and translate a designer’s universe into scent. He worked as a creative director with major fashion lines such as Giorgio Armani, where he developed Acqua di Gio and Mania and then with Viktor & Rolf for Flowerbomb. Franck's journey took a different road, as Franck created his own collection  a fragrant fantasyland where perfume was olfactive storytelling born of legend and lore of the past; scent as art.

Elsire perfumes are "elixirs of desire", which inpsired the brand's name. Upon first spritz of each of five fragrances in the line, (composed byMaster Perfumer Alberto Morillas, Ileas Ermendis, and  Pierre Negrin of Firmenich) you can tell that care and quality run parallel with love and fantasy. Each scent tells its own story and seduces the senses in a unique way; all are bold, rich, profound, and elegant. Each of the five fragrances have excellent longevity, lasting well over 8 hours and sillage is strong… sensual projection that will be noticed by those around you, but won’t  overpower the atmosphere of a room.

Eau Papaguena–  A jungle of sensations. Uplifting and delightful like the sun. This is a very radiant fragrance, a celebration in independence, a triumph of realization of destiny. When I smell Eau Papaguena I travel to  the Amazon where the flora is  verdant and the water is chrystal clear. I am brought to a moment in time where  my worries dissipate and the banal is banished. This fragrance is bright, green, fresh, and sensationally celestial. Notes: Calabrian bergamot, grapefruit flower, cardamom, orange blossom absolute, ambrox, incense, vetyver, and cypress.  (Pierre NEGRIN)

Elixir Absolu is La Beaute in Fabula…a free spirited woman who cannot be tied down, but she is always worth the chase. Fabulous beauty wrapped in wanderlust and walking to the beat of her father’s favorite song from the 60’s, Elixir Absolu is retro chic and runway ready. She’s a European model striding through the streets of Manhattan on her way to her next photo shoot. Do you have the gusto to stop her in her tracks and make your self a memory in her mind that will last forever? Are you capable of keeping her attention long enough that she is entertained, but not long enough to make her late and in turn become annoyed? Only one way to find out, go ahead and say hello; her eyes are cheerful and her smile is genuine. Notes: Bergamot, rosebud, mandarin, mimosa, tiare Tahiti, freesia, orange blossom, magnolia, ylang ylang, sandalwood, patchouli, amber, ambrox, vanilla, musks. Ambre Nomade is a fragrance as beautiful as a sunset in Japan cloaked in tradition and celebrated like soldier’s return home from a 3-year war in a far off land.  When you close your eyes and smell Ambre Nomade you imagine yourself standing in the gardens of an Emperor’s palace in in ancient Japan. You walk in humility and are greeted with tranquility as the narcotic ylang ylang flowers seduce the senses and the aroma of cedarwood used to build the temple ahead ease the soul. Ambre Nomade captivated me and is the inspiration for my scent prose. Notes: Apricot, ginger, clary sage, ylang ylang, cedarwood, cistus, patchouli, olibanum, vanilla, musks. (Pierre NEGRIN)

Akemi- Bright Beauty by The Nosey Artist

As I stepped over the bodies of our honorable opponents I wiped the blood off my katana and said a prayer of thanks to the gods before I signaled my troops to precede forward- we had an extraordinary journey ahead of us and this was only the beginning. While we made our way through the thick of the bamboo forest a few memories of the past started to replay in my mind.

First, memories of me as a boy in the city of Tokyo and the apricot and ginger green tea my care mother used to make me. I was raised an orphan abandoned by a peasant father filled with shame because he couldn’t afford to take care of his son. The day he dropped me off at the woman’s house his last words to me were, “Be strong, and respect life. Seek love and virtue in all things.” Those words stuck with me all through my life, even as I ran away from the orphanage and faked my family lineage in order to become the Samurai that I am today. The second memory that came to mind was my bright beauty Akemi, my love that had been captured by our rivals as a way to disorient me and throw me off the course of our mission. She had been held in captivity for 22 days now and not a moment went by that I didn’t think of her and her warm sensual love and her bright smile sweeter than the most exotic of all vanillas.

Few battles in Japan were waged during the spring, but corruption and greed had been plaguing the country for the last 10 years and it seemed like rivers of blood had been flowing and tear drops from the gods had been falling from the sky non stop no matter the season.  My thoughts came to an abrupt stop and were interrupted by my instincts as I heard snaps of twigs in the distance…the enemy? No, just a red fox frolicking through the forest; more than likely on the hunt, much like we were today. It’s almost been three days since I’ve slept, but I was more alert than ever; I guess when the heart gets involved the body knows no fatigue.

Oh my sweet Akemi, I can hear your voice in my ears, your cries for help, your whispers of disparity, may the gods have mercy on you..may the gods…

My thoughts again were interrupted, this time not by sound, but by an excruciating paint I had never felt before. I became light headed and weak; I fell to my knees in despair. An arrow had been plunged into my midsection and as the acid from my stomach began to spill over my organs and the blood flowed profusely from the wound I knew I was dying. My comrades rushed to my side to help me, but I ordered them to proceed forward and save my love; I’d rather die alone than bare the shame of defeat in the company of my men

My bright beauty, oh my bright beauty, if you can feel the angst from my spirit have no fear for I am still coming…I am yours, you are mine and not even deaths hall keep us apart.

  • OMG Ambre Nomade sounds wonderful, Apricot opening is what was intriguing to me and how I would love to visit the Emperors palace in Japan. I am in the US and would love to own a FB of the Ambre Nomade a fragrance that could transport me to a beautiful location with a scent. I also liked the Etat Libre Jasmin et Cigarette review, makes me almost want to try it 🙂

  • A fragrant fantasyland…..count me in. I never leave home without a fragrance and often sniff my wrists to transport myself…..even though I love my job. Too bad there isn’t Bergdorf Goodman in my area. Good advice in this piece about respecting life, being strong and seeking love and virtue. Thanks. I live in the U.S.

  • A fragrance can brings back memory and transport someone to a imaginative land… Guess it’s a must try for me. 😀
Hoping this is a ginger&vanilla dominant scent as I lobe both of these notes.

Would like to win the sample set of all 5 Elsire perfumes.
I’m from Malaysia. Thank you for the draw. 🙂

  • Ambre Nomade would definitely be my choice. From the description and review, I imagine a light amber laced with spices and ylang ylang. I enjoyed the review, but I also loved the images for this post. I’m in the US. Thanks.

  • I haven’t heard about Elisire before but I am so glad I know about it now. First how impressive that Franck was the creative director of flowerbomb. My wife wears it a lot.
Such an unusual style of writing a review in the voice of a returning warrior. Ylang cedar musk and true love sound great
    Ambre Nomade sounds spectacular
Does anyone know if their site sells samples?

  • I see a trend. Many industry professionals who have managed mega perfumes such as Angel, issey, and Acqua di Gio have decided to branch out on their own. it may be a sign they want more creativity but not content with the direction designer fragrances have been taking. i am intrigued by Ambre Nomade because it has been inspired by Japanese culture and Japan is one of the most fascinating countries in my opinion though I wish it was more diverse. my choice will be Ambre Nomade. thanks a lot for the draw. i am in the US

  • Ambre Nomade, described as beautiful as a sunset in Japan and celebrated like a soldier’s return from a far away land, would have been my first choice from Elisire. The evocative writing makes it particularly desirable. The other perfume description that appealed to me the most is Elixir Absolu. Who doesn’t want to be Jean Shrimpton? I would love to win Ambre Nomade. Thanks to all for the generous opportunity!

  • The Nosey Artist definitely conveyed the evocativeness of Ambre Nomade. I’m sold! And would love a bottle. I love all things Japonesque.

Loved the graphics for this review, Michelyn!

In the US. Thanks for the draw and cheers!

  • Amber Nomade the notes and the association of the perfume’s character with Japans landscape and culture make it appealing to me.
I love the idea of a fragrant fantasyland the imaginary trip that a smell can take you and the memories it can create.
I am a registered reader living in EU and would to win the sampler set.

  • I’ve had the chance to travel to the beautiful land of Japan several years ago and everything in this review brings me back to that beautiful place. I have seen the sunsets in Japan, so any fragrance “as beautiful as a sunset in Japan cloaked in tradition and celebrated like soldier’s return home from a 3-year war in a far off land” is a fragrance I must explore!

I had the chance to visit Kyoto and Ambre Nomade sounds like that experience in a fragrance – the beautiful gardens of ancient Japan. I love the scents of ylang ylang and cedarwood.

I love the photographs and wonderful descriptions in this review. My favorite line from the prose is the following: “The day he dropped me off at the woman’s house his last words to me were, “Be strong, and respect life. Seek love and virtue in all things.” ” Just beautiful!

I would love to win Amber Nomade and a full bottle of it would be what I would be so grateful to win. I am in the USA. Thank you!

  • I usually enjoy a good ylang ylang fragrance .The bottle is looking so perfectly lovely, and the notes sound awesome! I also like the photos you have chosen for this review,

Thanks for the draw! Happy Thanksgiving!

  • All of these scents sound lovely. What an all-star cast of noses! I spent some time in Japan a few years ago and adored the gardens most of all. I loved putting myself back there reading this review. What a dream it would be to find a perfume that could transport me back with one sniff! Eau Papaguena is actually the fragrance that calls to me most, though (although Jasmin Paradis is a close second). I live in Canada and would love a sampler of Eau Papaguena.

  • Apricot and ginger? I also loved the picture of the model dressed as a samurai. I would love to win Amber Nomade. I am in the US, thank you!

  • Amber Nomade sounds lovely, with its apricot and cedar and Japanese vibe, though I would want to win the sample set because I want to try all of them.
    U.S.

  • I like to imagine myself in an ancient Japanese Emperor’s garden; I love woods and ylang-ylang and i would love to smell it in combination with ginger which is one of my favourite ingredients. I’m in the EU so would like to get the sampler set. Thanks for the draw.

  • Nice review! I like ginger and apricot, so I am interested to see how they sound together. Really enjoying the bottle! Would love to try Amber Nomade,
Thank you so much for the draw! In the U.S.

  • Japan is one of the most fascinating areas of the world. I love how Amber Nomade is associated with it. Apricot is an intriguing note i’m not familiar with. This would be perfect to get myself familiar with this note. I would love to try all these creations especially Amber Nomade. I’m in the US. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win this generous giveaway.

  • The description of Ambre Nomade is impressive, indeed all about Elisire is impressive, from the inspirations behind each scent, through magnificent bottles to get to the man behind it all, and what a great creator, I do not imagine that behind the Elisire was Salzwedl Franck, one of the great creative directors.
The Nosey Artist did an excellent review giving an overview of these wonderful niche house. Surely the description of The Nosey Artist about Ambre Nomade left me fascinated, especially being the inspiration ‘A fragrance in eruption. Glorious and promising like the sunset ‘. This composition should be sensational, especially being a Extrait de Parfum, so it must be really powerful and gorioso as the sunset.
I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO WIN AMBRE NOMADE, it fascinated me! Another that made me want to test was Poudre Desir.
    I’m in the USA
    Thank you for this oportunity.

  • Beautiful review. It was really enjoyable to read it. From the review I think, that these fragrances are fabulous. Thanks for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • I’m in the US, and my choice would be Ambre Nomade because I’ve never been to Japan and the wonderful review transported me there. Thanks!

  • Great review as always! I’m very interested in this fragrance because I feel it fits my likes and lifestyle. I like the use of apricot and ginger in this one, and know it will be a wonderful addition to any collection! My choice will be the sampler set and I live in Canada.

  • Ambre Nomad sounds wonderful – I love ginger in scents, particularly in winter. I’m really enjoying The Nosey Artist’s perfumed prose and this review is no exception. The backstory he creates for his warrior is particularly compelling and I love the quote he included: “Be strong, and respect life. Seek love and virtue in all things.” I’d love to try Ambre Nomade and I’m in the US.

  • Wonderful review on this fragrance. Ginger is one of my favorite notes so this one has me excited! The Japanese history behind it was also very interesting to read. Thank you for the draw.

    Canada

  • I am very interested in Amber Nomade because of its combination of exotic notes.

I enjoyed the way is asociated in the review , Japan and the magical trip inspired Amber Nomade
I live in EU and would to win the sampler set.

  • This is my new go to fragrance I wear all the time. I recently stopped in Bergdrof and wound up sifting through the whole floor sampling and testing all the different lines. After smelling so many different fragrances that just seemed to be duplicating each other in different ways with the same notes, I finally came across something totally unexpected and transcending.. ELISIRE! From the initial opening all through the dry down I was totally captivated while I shopped around and kept smelling my wrist. Like a great movie, that opens with a surprise and keeps you guessing and constantly wanting more to see where it will lead and what message you’ll take or send. This is Elisire. The message to me and the friendly sales assistant was clear. Ill take both Eau Papaguena and a Ambre Nomade! Thank you for finally taking my senses into a unpredictably new euphoric realm!
