Earth Balance: Thoughts On Earth Day + Parfum LaLun Phenomene Vert II Natural Perfume Draw

I am not good at remembering important dates, preferring to live in the moment, day-to-day. Sometimes I even question a holiday. . . of course every day should be Valentines Day! So it shouldn't come as a surprise that Earth Day would have missed my radar had I not been reminded by Michelyn. But that in no way diminishes how I feel about our planet, this unique garden (to quote my friend Dan Riegler) spinning through an infinite universe. It behooves us to set aside a day to reflect on and marvel at the gift we have right under our feet. That is, if we can cut through the asphalt and concrete of our lives.

Sometimes, when  I am driving through LA, I feel like I am not really outside because every surface I see is constructed so that my feet cannot touch the earth. Susun Weed, an herbalist I admire, says we should spend a few minutes each day with our bare feet touching the earth. It helps balance our negative ions. I may not know what that feels like, but I do know when I am out of balance. Gazing at the world from the 26th floor of a high rise, coming home with more packaging than food, never knowing a dark night because of light pollution, never connecting our feet to the soil, these are signs that we are out of balance. And if we are out of balance, then so is our earth, because we are one and the same.

  • to me, earth day is the celebration of who we are and where we come from. I also remember my right to protest on this day and stand up with
My fellow human beings and say no to the savage destruction that many governments and large corporations endorse and carry out. I also celebrate the great beauty of our planet and her natural resources and habitats. What a wonderful draw. Many thanks and I am in the US

  • What a beautiful offer to sample something so pure and natural stemming from a true human longing to connect with what it came from! I wish Earth day was every day. I consider myself someone who is suppose to protect the Earth – I am glad for the holiday of course because it reminds us to honor and cherish what we would not be able to do without. The Earth was made perfect for us, it gives us everything we need as human beings and Earth day reminds me of the great debt that I owe to the Earth that asks for nothing but continues to give.

  • Such a lovely reminder. I love the one pic of the tree in the hand. Earth day is a happy day. I wish everyday was earth day and that it was warm enough here in Chicago to walk barefoot in the grass. Thanksf or the draw.

  • As a lover and respecter of this planet we call home, everyday is earth day for me. I love nature and get very emotional and moved by the beauty that is displayed for me everyday! One hashtag I use on my IG posts when I post a photo while on a walkabout is #openthosepeepers I think we fail to notice, appreciate and respect this planet we call home… For now it is our only option. Great post Maggie and Thanks for the Fabulous draw. I am in the US

  • Earth Day is a reminder to embrace a sustainable lifestyle, to support initiatives for clean energy, and to create positive changes in the way we all treat our environment.

  • Thank you for this lovely reminder of how important our Mother Gaia is! Today, just a few miles up the road from Mark Head’s farm, Airlie Foundation, where “Earth Day” was first conceived by Joan Baez, Don McLean and Murdoch Head, M.D. I planted about 40 beet seeds in soil I turned with my fingers because I forgot the hoe and it was going to pour and I wanted to get them into the ground!

I feel very blessed to be living on a farm which I consider heaven on earth. It is not always easy but it is close to the earth. Much love to all!

Sometimes I don’t see my closest friends or family members until a big holiday comes along and we all gather together. Those relationships are strong and deep apart from the holiday, but the holiday really does help make sure, at a very practical level, that we set aside time to experience and regenerate these important connections. I wish I could say that Earth Day accomplishes this task for me in relation to the Earth, but it doesn’t. I think that’s because the other holidays I’m thinking of are given real weight in my society and culture. If I did nothing special that day, I would feel a real loss, and I’ve been trained since childhood to think this way. Also, it’s the very collective nature of the holidays that makes them so powerful. I literally cannot celebrate them alone. Speaking for myself, I and my community are still a long distance from feeling connected to the Earth, and through each other to the Earth, with anything close to that kind of power. So for the moment, Earth Day is a sad day for me, a time to notice something that ought to exist but does not.

  • Earth Day is about remembering hthat the earth is intrinsically valuable beyond the joy we can get out of it or the ways in which it makes us feel good. It’s wonderful in ugly weather, during natural disasters, whenever. And it’s not ours, but we are lucky enough to be on it.

Earth Day to me is a reminder of the fact this planet is the only home we have (until we figure out who to establish colonies elsewhere in the universe) and it also makes me sad how poor a job we are doing of protecting it and its biodiversity. In a way, every day is an Earth Day for me because these thoughts go through my mind almost every day.

  • Valentine Girl says:

As an avid gardener, April is a really busy month for me. During that last week when Earth Day rolls around, I am preparing the garden beds for the upcoming growing season and frantically potting up all the seedlings I started indoors in March for transferring to the garden in May.
As I turn over the soil in my garden beds, I have a little ritual of taking my shoes and socks off and stepping barefoot into the prepared bed and just standing there feeling the slightly moist, sun kissed warm soil squishing through my toes and smelling freshly turned dirt all around. And that’s how I celebrate Earth Day. Thank you for the draw. USA resident.

  • Earth Day is a day to think about our world; how beautiful it is and what we need to do to protect it. 41 years ago, millions of people across the country stood up for the environment during the first Earth Day (an action that led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency). Earth Day is the time to participate in festivals, environmental cleanups, tree plantings, recycling programs and community activities.

  • This is an exciting draw, because Earth Day truly does mean so much to me. We should celebrate Mother Earth with such fervor on every day of the year, and protect and love and hold in the highest regard. If we don’t finally realize that we are part of this Earth as much as we are the flesh and blood of our own family, and act accordingly, it will be the end of all life. Thank you for making such a lovely scent and thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.
