Velvet ribbons, gold vermeil and glass beads,
Prettily stranded throwing sparks of light
In the sun
Miss Dabney Rose shows her wares
Oils to make your skin gleam
ruby red lipcolor in tiny glass jars
Flowers captured in time, liquid precious potions to keep your complexion
Youthful elastic and soft
But most precious of all…most precious of all…
the Perfumes…
Wrapped in leather or antique cloth small gold compacts gleam…beckon
Their magical contents out of reach until the currency is exchanged
(Miss Rose won’t let you touch them)
She will allow your outstretched arm
If you please
A tiny dab of scent
You can wear it all day she says
Come back tomorrow if you like it, and buy
Miss Dabney is generous with her attention
To her customers
No-one goes un-noticed
Everyone is equal in her eyes
Miss Dabney knows
The value of a warm hug
And her sweet Perfumes exude the genuine tenderness of her spirit.
Amberleah by Dabney Rose is a warm amber type perfume presented in a charming gold compact as a creamy easy to apply solid. The sweetness of first impression never leaves the skin despite the overall strength of the labdanum, benzoin and frankincense drydown. We have a scent that captures a wanderlust wistfulness by combining the peppery notes of cardamom and other spices with the sweetness of honey, caramel and vanilla tempered by the solidity of wood and resins.
Amberleah is ambery /woody /sweet/ spicy but never heavy. This scent is friendly, a pick me up for dull days or when emotional comfort is needed. The scent is not challenging but simply warm, sweet and tender. It reminds me of the days when I put on the comforting music of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and sing along “somewhere over the rainbow” and “twinkle twinkle little star”. The scent is perhaps for those days, the difficult days when one needs comfort rather than challenges. Amberleah is one (along with Dabney’s Rose Aimee which is rosy citrusy sweet and delicious) that children might be attracted to. My little God Daughter loves Dabney’s perfumes, they do make great gifts, and they are all natural.
The sillage is mild, the crème goes on smoothly, and the scent lasts a few hours.
I bought full size compacts of Dabney Rose’s Perfumes as references for this article.
Amberleah scent is comforting, sweet and pure. Not challenging but jolly (a Briticism, please indulge me!) and most definitely uplifting. Thank you Dabney, for providing a sweet, delightfully lovely, all natural perfume I can share with my little 5 year old Lulu and yet love myself…. That, my dear, is rare.
6 mini cutie pots of Dabney Rose’s Amberleah solid perfumes are available for a draw, please comment on site to enter the draw. 6 winners will be picked randomly on Thursday July 29 at 11:59PM EST.

Dabney very kindly sent me a sample of this precious solid perfume a few months back. I adore it and agree it lasts a long time on my skin. Love this one very much and yes a very comforting scent Monica, great description.

So happy to see Dabney's review! Her hydrosols are lovely, too, you could write about them as perfume layering adjuncts. Wonderful for the summer, too.
What a delightful journey !

Something I could share with my 5yo? (Her interest in perfume is growing with mine – she's quite the budding perfumista!) Ooh, count me in!

It sounds like that perfect comfort outfit, the snuggie jammies, the soft slippers, the cup of tea on a rainy day, the gloomies threatening to bring you down, but the scent lifts you high up into the sky…where bluebirds fly!
Lovely, lovely review! Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention Shelley from the BP group! Thanks for your picturesque descriptions Monica
