CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme Review (2009) + Top Five Fragrance Designer Draw

CoSTUME NATIONAL is an Italian fashion house founded in 1986 by designer Ennio Capasa. The House is known for its urban ”rocker” chic with slim and sexy silhouettes. The vibe may be avant-garde but Ennio Capasa is a master of Italian craftsmanship and maitre perfumer Dominque Ropion composes CoSTUME NATIONAL designer fragrances, which all have a “niche” vibe.  Sr. Contributor Sebastian Jara is a fan of  CosTUME National’s perfumes owns four, including SOUL, which he reviewed in November 2017. The fragrances and the flacons are a study of minimalism (the first was Scent which debuted in 2002) but the fragrances themselves are anything but simple. CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme is among Sebastian’s top five designer fragrances of all time.  CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme may be targeted to men, but it is perfect for women too and anyone who likes cozy spices especially cinnamon and cloves.     Another great review from Sebastian! If this fragrance is one of his top 5 of all time, that is enough for me; however, I love the notes, the ‘tea vibe’, and that it is described as a cozy fragrance with great longevity. I have never tried a CN scent, but this one has been on my list for a long time. I am a male that wears unisex fragrances, but have not worn any that are directly marketed for women.

    I’ve been wanting to get into Costume National’s men’s fragrances since I’ve heard they are great winter time scents. I love Sebastian’s likening them to niche, since they truly seem to be. I also love his relation to a oriental scent due to those cloves!

    I have not tried Costume National. I heard about it a few months back but it dropped off of my radar. From what I have heard, they are well blended and unique enough to be niche. As always, Sebastian has a way of describing a fragrances that makes it three dimensional and I can almost smell them ( a great help!). I would really like to try Costume National Homme. Sebastian really liked this one and he has yet to stir me wrong. Thank you for this opportunity.

    This perfume is an amazing one, actually the entire line is great. The house is really really underrated and i dont understand why. It has a lot of gems especially cn homme, cn 21, cn scent intense, cn soul and cn cyber garden. I do wear a lot of fragrances marketed to women, of course it depends , but for example costume national scent intense is marketed for women and it is so so unisex 200%. And it’s happening the other way , a lot of girls wearing men perfumes and colognes.

    Sebastian is alway spot on in his reviews. I found his description of the dried fruit accord in Costume National Homme very appealing. Gender wise, I pretty much wear whatever I want. Several years ago I bought Costume National Scent Intense. As I remember it had, a very nice Hibiscus tea scent.

    I’m familiar with CN but not this fragrance. I appreciate the fact that Sebastian reviews scents that our marketed towards women opening the noses of men to new scent realities.

    I’ve never tried any Costume National fragrances, but after Sebastian’s review I’d love to try Homme and Soul. I love his in-depth descriptions of fragrances, and this one sounds extremely comforting. I don’t usually wear fragrances marketed to women but I’m definitely not adverse to the idea if I like the fragrance I don’t really mind who it’s marketed to.

    What I enjoyed about Sebastian’s YouTube review is how thorough he is with the review in just 5 minutes! I would LOVE to win Soul. I’ve never tried any CoSTUME NATIONAL fragrances before but I love the combination of leather, vanilla and cardamom so that is why I would consider Soul. However, Homme also sounds lovely. I have worn Stash before and my wife loves it on me.

    Another great review by Sebastian. I trust him 100%, so when he says that this offerings is on the top 5 of his designer list, that means it great! I have only tried Soul from that house and I like it. It is interesting and unique scent. I rather stick to the masculine or unisex fragrances with one exception which is black orchid from tom ford. USA

    It sounds like a great scent. Especially when he mentioned the slight booziness and tea, which sounds great with the spices. I haven’t tried any of CN’s scents yet though, and I do wear scents marketed to women if I like the way they smell

    Sebastians review makes this sound VERY appealing and delicious. Plus he mention it’s on his top all time hits. Wow! That’s says alot for this house. Also, to have niche quality at designer price is a plus for everyone. I would pick Soul as it is considered a unisex. Women perfumes I use are Sarah j parker STASH, armaf CLUB DE NUIT, and Tom ford BLACK ORCHID. all very unisex.

    I’ve been silently watching Sebastian’s YouTube reviews for the past month or so. I’ve only recently developed an interest in fragrances. I’ve never tried CoSTUME NATIONAL before, but I would love to try a more masculine fragrance. The way Sebastian described this scent made it sound like something I would like, and if not for myself it would at least be something I would like on my husband. I’m a firm believer in “do what makes you happy”. Who cares who it’s marketed to, as long as it works with your body chemistry? (No offense to those in marketing.) Bottom line. It sounds like a great fragrance and I’d be happy to have it in my life! xx

    This was a great review, I like that he mentioned it could be worn by women or men despite the name of the fragrance. I love spicy scents and haven’t tried this one out yet so a full bottle would be great! I personally don’t wear women’s perfume myself but I love many unisex scents.

    Agree with Sebastian. Have sampled this once and I find it niche quality as oppose to just being your typical designer. The dried fruit accord he mentioned was spot on as I also picked that up. Great frag for fall and winter indeed! It would be awesome to own a full bottle of this gem. San Diego USA

    I remember trying costume national homme in the past and the dried fruity accord Sebastian mentions may be the fig note I remember smelling. That might also be because Costume National Homme reminded me of a fragrance I purchased early in my journey from Ferragamo. I am man and of, course I have lot of perfumes targeted at women. Just day before yesterday, I was wearing first version of Opium EDP. thanks for the draw. I am in US.

    Sebastian always has some of the most informative reviews out there. He is one of my go to reviewers to hear about many fragrances Ive been hinting at. Costume National is brand new to me and the review on their Homme frag really kicked off my curiosity. The notes sound super pleasing and would love to be able to try this out.

    Interested in the fact that Sebastian brought up cinnamon, since this is a note I really like but isn’t really represented in my current wardrobe. I’ve sampled CN “Soul” at Barneys a while back, and would love to get my nose on “Homme.”

    Solid review as always Sebastian. Short, concise, and always informative. I haven’t tried any of CoStume National fragrances before, however CoStume National Homme use of bright citruses and spice has me intrigued. I’m usually more of a coffee person myself, but the subtle tea notes on a woodsy based sounds interesting and is my choice.

    In the past I would have said that most fragrances either lean masculine or feminine, but now I say wear whatever makes you happy. I don’t currently own any feminine leading fragrances (most are either too floral or sweet) but I have plenty of unisex fragrances that I enjoy. Mugler cologne being chief among them.     I liked Sebastians review because he noticed some key elements to this fragrance that I norticed right off the bat as well. I definitely got a black tea and stewed fruits vibe from this and always thought it was similar to kiste by Slumberhouse which I love. And as for being a man wearing fragrances marketed to women I wear “feminine” fragrances all the time. Gender specific marketing in perfumery is kind of silly in my opinion. Wear what you like.

    Have not tried this or any Costume National. But since Seb says that it is in his top 5 designer list then I am sold! I tend to shy away from feminine leaning fragrances especially the floral ones. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity to win a bottle of Homme!

    I own a Costume National parfum. It is called Scent Intense.. Smells amazing. I always watch Sebastions reviews . He is usually spot on with his descriptions of fragrences. I have worn gender neutral scents, not usually feminine however. I am a man, I want to smell like a gentleman always. JIM IN Maryland, near DC..

    YES! Count me in on this DRAW! Sebastian always does a wonderful job with his videos! I have not tried any of the Costume National’s offerings as of yet. This one has always gotten good reviews as a well grounded men’s fragrance through the years. I do live in the US… THANK YOU!

    Great video Sebastian!!!
    i like that fact, taht this perfume not only rich spicy fragarnce, but has as Sebastian said dry fruity and, what is interesting, fresh tee sides.
    Sometimes I wear female fragrances, but only for test and for experiment. There are many women which wear masculine fragarnces, but I know only a few men that wear female fragrances. Even many males if see that fragrances are labeled as female, do not wear or even test, although perfume has masculine vibe.

    Sebastian is one of my favorites…it helps that we seem to share the same taste in fragrances!! I like that he doesn’t feel constrained by a fragrance being labeled as masculine or feminine, just reviews based on what he likes. I have a sample of Costume National Homme which i received this week from Scentbird and it will be in my winter rotation moving forward.

    Great video and I do love cinnamon and tea. I like how this costume national frags have a niche vibe. It’s really warm in Idaho right now bet it doesn’t last

I would love to win Costume National homme due to the cinnamon and cloves in it which are two of my favorites in perfumery. I’ve never tried anything from this house before. I’ve worn fragrances marketed to women before and wouldn’t mind wearing a feminine fragrance as long as it doesn’t totally have a feminine vibe to it like contre moi by Louie Vuitton. I think the four notes of vanilla, cacao, ambrette and bergamot in it out of the other notes it’s composed of give it that balance of it being unisex.

    What I like most about Sebastians video is that he always keeps me interested in his reviews of a Cologne from beginning to end. I have never tried Costume National before and as a male I definitely wear fragrances marketed towards women. I’m in the United States, New York. Thank you!!

    Nice review spotlight Sebastian has a great nose, and I have not tried any costume national yet but this sounds like a good scent, seems to be a good value also. Now will have to make plans to go barneys.

    Sabastian is awesome! He is a true frag-head. His reviews are so detailed and truly thought out. I like that this scent has been around for a while and its an edp. The cinnamon and clove notes mustreally spice up this gem. I have never smelt it but it really sounds like one I would really enjoy. USA Minnesota

    I love cozy fragrances this time of year. I am a homebody, after all. i am very interested in the dried fruits note and the unlisted tea note. i have never tried anything from this house, but I was lucky enough to once find a Costume National jacket in a thrift store for a few dollars.
    ! would like to win Homme. I am a man but I like to wear fragrances marketed to women. Chamade comes to mind. i just don’t care about marketing.

    I have not tried anything Costume National. I definitely wear masculines as long as they are not aquatic. Especially Amouages. And Caron Pour Une Homme.

    That is a very helpful review, especially talking about notes that Sebastian experienced but are not listed.

    Generally I don’t go for designer ones but if it’s a great scent I don’t care. I would love to try this one!

    I really enjoy spicy fragrance that have cinnamon and cloves notes. Sebastian’s review is great, as always. I’d love to win Homme. I have a few fragrances that are geared for men that I really enjoy wearing on myself like Thierry Mugler’s Cologne and A*Men.

    I have never sampled the brand. Dominique Ropion is my favorite parfumeur. The way Sebastian describes this fragrance really intrigues me fruit boozy spicy with a slight tea accord sounds amazing. I would love to win Costume National Homme.     I do follow Sebastian as a reviewer for a long-long time – since his old chanel Man Loves Cologhne .Count me in for sure for this one.I do ownl Soul-great scent , but that’s the only one i’ve smelled from the brand.
