With Virgin Island Water, Creed trades in their suit-and-tie sophistication for a bathing-suit-and-Mai-Tai vacation. A flacon should come with a swizzle stick and umbrella.

Le Labo's Bergamote 22 is a smile-inducing freshie with the depth and character one would expect from Le Labo. Amazingly, the sweet citric opening notes fade into the woody mid, only to reappear like the sun peaking through the clouds. Whether you're in Feragamos or flip-flops, B22 in collaboration  with perfumer Daphne Bugney is a sexy summer sparkler. Le Prozac

A juxtaposition of elegance and ease live in Carthusia Io Capri. I tend to apply it liberally and wear it on cool breezy summer days. It starts out citrus-green, with a tad of mint that adds to its exuberant fresh opening. Fig leaf, tea, a floral heart, and tobacco allow for sweetness and warmth. The open air propels Io Capri to set sail and suddenly I am in Sorrento taking in the sea cliffs and walking down the narrow streets. I stop for a while to take a coffee or perhaps a limoncello. Finally I am far away from these paved city streets.

When the breeze disappears I like to meet hot humid summer nights head-on with a gutsy gourmand. L’Artisan ParfumeurTraversee Du Bosphore, a leather gourmand does the trick. The Bosporus aka the Strait of Constantinople separates the continents of Europe and Asia. Through Bertrand Duchaufour’s vision Istanbul materializes. The weight and texture of this fragrance is instantly felt with thick notes that comfort and caress the skin. Sweet apple tabac, worn suede leather, powdery roots, Damascus rose, and sweet Turkish delight are stronger than any humid day. How can a fragrance created for a place that I have never been feel like home.

Like a delicate foot easily sliding into a glass slipper, Les Exclusifs de Chanel Eau de Cologne, sparkles and shines in its transparency. Summertime and the living and wearing are easy. Its sheerness beckons the summer months; I instantly imagine a world of summer white silk, linen, and cotton voile. It is all about citrus, herbs, and a delicate white floralcy and musk just waiting to be abundantly spritzed. A classic story retold.

High on my list of summer must-haves is Penhaligon’s bright, refreshing Peoneve by master pefumer Olivier Cresp. Rose is as the heart of this scent, as it is with many fragrances based on the lush peony flower, but, fortunately, the opulence of peony shines through as well, surrounded by moist greenery. As a testament to this spicy, sunny beauty, I have only worn it once, but think about it every day.

Santa Maria Novella makes some fantastic hot-weather scents, and one of my favorites is Santa Maria Novella Gaggia, which is based on one of my favorite perfume notes, mimosa. Crisply green and lightly floral, I chose this fragrance out of the many that SMN has to offer by smelling it on my skin as I walked through the Los Angeles neighborhood the store is in on a hot day, where the jacarandas, jasmine, and roses were in full swing. Gaggia stood out from the scents I was testing as the perfect fragrance to be wearing, and it came home with me.

INeKE Derring-Do is my standout fragrance for this time of year. Translucent citruses blend with silky cyclamen (Persian violet) and a sea spray-like note that makes it shimmer and glisten. As this continues, it blends the warmth and spiciness of cardamom and pepper with the tender green of fern and creamy magnolia petals. It is spicy, yet floral fresh AND clean! The finish of aromatic Virginia cedar, cool and shady guaiac and white musk complete this with a perfect trinity of woody musky notes, yet this remains uplifting and revitalizing. Cleanly sexy and elegant…what more does one need?

I want to give a shout out to the underused and underappreciated caraway. I don’t know why this doesn’t get used more as a substitute for bergamot in the top notes. I always get carried away by caraway in the summer. Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle is a great example. From the caraway and cinnamon opening right through to the vetiver and myrrh this is one of my favorite fragrances of all that Pierre Guillaume has made.

My other caraway staple is Van Cleef & Arpels Tsar. In this fragrance the caraway combines with an ensemble of notes to create a green fougere that is the perfect tonic on a hot day full of soothing verdant quality that makes me say AAAAH!

top ten summer scents 2013

Twilight Time Suite:Jasmine by Isaac Maimon

I  don't love summer. There I said it.  Extreme humidity and heat make me cranky. The days of basking in the sun and two week vacations to the Meditteranean or the Caribbean are a thing of the past.  My tan comes out of a bottle and although the bikini still fits, it's buried in a drawer. I do love summer scents and ironically wear more fragrance in the summer than in any other season.

My friend and scent twin Carol emailed me last year about Parfums de Nicolaï L’Eau à la Folie, a new "eau" from the world of fragrance's  equivalent of perfume royalty-Mme Patricia de Nicolai. I seldom blind buy a fragrance but I am glad I did because ever since life's a peach. Scent has transportive powers and  when I close my eyes  I am at Harry's Bar in Venice circa 1948 sipping a sparkling peach bellini cocktail. Ernest Hemingway enters the bar and stops to chat with Guiseppe Cipriani. "Papa" passes by and comments on my perfume, calling it "intoxicating". Is it me or the effervescent jasmine? He invites me to his private table in the corner. We watch as the sun sets over the Grand Canals and the water is deep green with a rosy hue.

One of my favorite Italian perfumers is Maitre Perfumer Maria Candida Gentile, who creates olfactive magic with her beautifully crafted eponymous line. Most people don't know that she is the nose behind  quite a few scents for Profumi del Forte, a line that doesn't get much love here in the USA. I discovered   Vittoria Apuana, a stunning tropical perfume at Takashima in New York City (RIP: Fifth Avenue has never been the same). It's a summertime beauty with the best coconut note in all of perfumery as far as I am concerned. Signora Gentile's signature citrus essences (the sweet orange used in this is spectacular) shine as bright as the sun. In my younger years, I spent a lot of time in Negril. I remember bronzing on the pristine white beaches, shaded by leafy coconut trees as I gazed into the crystalline turquoise sea. Those days of peace and tranquilty are forever with me with a just a spritz of Vittoria Apuana.  The bit of banana at the top adds creaminess to the coconut as the tiare heart seems to waft on a gentle ocean breeze. Amber and  boozy vanilla add dimension without too much sweetness. I wore Vittorial Apuana to a Sniffapalooza breakfast in 2009 and at my table was Carol and Symine Salimpour (of Hors La Monde and Shiloh fame) who both flipped even though it was 7:00 am and Symine was jetlagged.

  • I live in the US, and I'm still waiting on summer to arrive in the Pacific Northwest. My house doesn't have air conditioning, so as soon as it turns warm here, I usually turn to citrus perfumes to stay refreshed in the heat. My choices would be Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana, Parfums de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie, Ineke Derring-Do, or L'Artisan Traversee du Bosphore. Thanks for the drawing!

  • I LOVE the summer! I spend most of my days off at the beach. I did today, as a matter of fact. I would be very happy to win Vittoria Apuana, Bergamote 22, L'eau a la Folie, or Traversee du Bosphore. Thanks for the great list, and wonderful draw

  • Summer, for me, is a kind of turning inside-out, more expressive and public yet also more intimate than the colder seasons. In Madrid Spain, where I live, summer packs a punch but it's also very vibrant and exciting, full of life. The descriptions of both INeKE's Derring-Do and Nicolai's L'Eau a la Folie are very appealing, either would make summer very interesting! Thanks for the wonderful draw.

  • Hello!  I'm ready to welcome the summer like a love and lost, but never forgotten, friend.  To begin celebrating her warmth, colors, activities and much improved attitudes!  Also to be able to release the drowning heaviness of winter, is so cathartic it almost makes a person giddy!  I'm most excited about the Bergamote 22, the Ineke Derring-Do and the Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana.  I live in the U.S.A.  Regards, Brenda 'Boo' Forney

  • d3m0lici0n says:

I live in the US and I’d love to win Bergamote 22 or Apuana. Summer is great for outdoors and hiking but sometimes here in Southern California it’s way too hot to be outside, in August the temperature goes above 100 and is better to be inside with some AC and a really cold drink.

  • I live in the US, and here in Dallas summer is rapidly approaching a daily high temp of 100 degrees – L'eau a la folie has been a staple of mine in the heat since last year.  It's gorgeous, and never too sweet or heavy.  I would absolutely love to try the PG Querelle and see how caraway does in the heat!

  • Heather F says:

I love the summer, though I'm not a huge fan of the heat here in the southern US. I would love to win the Bergamote 22 or Traversee du Bosphore.  Thanks as ever for the draw!

  • I used to love summer but growing up my tolerance for heat is not what it used to be -which can be an issue here in Athens, Greece. Greek islands are another story! I would love to win L'Eau a la Folie, Vittoria Apuana or Bergamote 22. Thank you for the giveaway!

  • Summer is those scents which carry the sea on their top notes and waft across your body like a morning breeze, soft and lazy…squeeze some lime too…

Tropical nights were scent is unleashed and the big guns can get wild..Tiare..Magnolia..Jasmine Sambac

And we must eat..mango, Paw Paw..and drink Coocnut and lemongrass, Kaffir lime scented curries.. that's how we do Summer in the South Pacific…chilli flavored Beers as an after thought…

I'm in New Zealand but have a US addy as well.

I'd love Vittoria Apuana, Bergamote 22, L'eau a la Folie, Traversee du Bosphore or Ineke Derring-Do, Parfums de Nicloai L/eau a la folie

  • Love summer with all the outdoor grilling, camping, outdoor fun. Love Bonfires too…making smores with my grandson. This year the warmer weather arrived late, but it is here right now. Would love the win Profumi del Dorte Vittoria Apuana or the Peoneve :)…thank you for the fab draw.

  • Lisa Abdul-Quddus says:

I'm a homebody so you'd probably catch me out back grilling or relaxing after a quick run to the local ice cream shoppe. I live in the US and would be happy to win Traversee du Bosphore or Peoneve. Really I'd be happy with either one of them. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • I am with you.  I am not crazy about the heat and humidity of summer, but I do love the things one can do and eat and see in summer.  Looking forward as well to the lovely lazy light of a late summer afternoon.

I would love to win Bergamote 22, Traversee du Bosphore, Querelle, L'Eau a la Folie or Vittoria Apuana.  Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Summer is the time of life. Humans come out like ants out of woodwork.

This summer I've been wearing Eau de Cologne (Chanel), Bigarade Concentree (Editions de Parfums), Corpes et Ames 2012 (Parfumerie Generale), Santal 33 (Le Labo), Flor y Canto (Arquiste), Panache (Parfums DelRae) and Kobe (Xerjoff)

My choice would firstly be Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle, and secondly Le Labo Bergamote 22.

    Have a great weekend!

  • I needed to hear some Kool n The Gang, thanks for that! I dig. I didn't know Summertime by Will Smith was a rip of this song, that beat, it's the same. Learn something new everyday! I like Kool n The Gang better:).

My thoughts on summer- I love just listening to music enjoying lots of sun-we do get a lot here, goin to the Lake, and love them bbqs, esp on the 4th of July, one of my fave holidays! I think of love a lot in the summer. Not sure why but I always do…maybe cause I met my husband in the summer, LOL:). There is Hot August Nights here, so classic cars..but hate the heat. It's called Hot AN for a reason, it can get 100+.

I love the fresh fruit stands around, love. Bbq cook-offs, nice sunsets, cool lemonade on a hot day:).

I just got to try a small sample of the Peoneve and liked it very much! It would be a delight to win some.

Thanks again for another fab draw!

  • I wilt once it gets to be too hot and my beach days are few and far between. I live inland in the US

The reviews are so well written and creative especially the one for L’eau a la folie and Bergomote 22
I love Chanel Eau cologne it doesn’t get much attention but I know its not part of the draw beautiful review
So vittoria apuana (big fan of Maria Candida Gentile and no I didn’t know she did any fragrances but hers), bergamote 22 and L’eau a la folie sound the best for me and derring do and querelle for my husband
Thank you to all the perfumeries for the draw so generous

  • Summer is a weird little beast up in the high desert. The temperature can change by forty or fifty degrees within a 24-hour period, so it can be tough to keep up with those shifts through my perfume. (I adore Cristalle, but on a chilly night, it feels like I'm getting frostbite!) That said, all of these scents sound like they might be great picks that could make some smother transitions. I live in the US, and I would LOVE to win any of these. The PdF or PdN might be my first choices, but I'd be extremely happy with any of them. Thanks for the great draw!

  • GregorySop says:

I live in Ohio in the US and summer has hopefully finally arrived for good, although a bit stormy of late. I also work at GM so if it gets to hot it is miserable as well so I appreciate a nice 80-85 degree day, today was beautiful and my son and I got some yard work done…Definately need an excellent new summer scent for this year… thanks for the draw.

Bergemote 22, L'Artisan Traverse du Bosphore, Ineke Derring-Do, Generale Querelle, Parfum de Nicolai Folie

  • Tourbillion says:

I love that there are outdoor concerts and events in Summer because there are so many extra hours of daylight to enjoy.

I really liked Traversee du Bosphore (I used to have a sample), but am also interested in trying Peoneve, Derrring-Do and Vittoria Apuana.

  • I live nowhere near a beach in upstate NY, but summers are beautiful here. I haven't tried any of the perfumes you mentioned, but I've been wearing 10 Corso Como often. It works well across the range of temperatures we get during any given week. I would love to win the Peoneve, the Traversee du Bosphore, or the la Folie (and I live in the US).

  • rosiegreen says:

I live in the U.S, in the lovely Pacific Northwest  where we can get spring, summer and winter all in the same week, sometimes in the same day. I would love to try all of the scents mentioned, your reviewers are so lyrical. My top to bottom list is as follows:

Bergamote 22, Eau a la Folie, Querelle, Traversee de Bosphore,Vittoria Apuana, Peoneve and Derring-Do.

  • Fazal Cheema says:

i am also not a fan of summer but in its defense, it provides an appropriate climate to wear one of my favorite and earliest loves, Eau Sauvage!

I am based in the Beautiful USA and my choices are

    Le Labo Bergamote 22
    Parfumerie Generale Querelle
Parfums de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie
    Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana

  • linnea wiedeman says:

Summer is my fave season.  So much time to spend outdoors, which is where I like to be best.  Although In ca. it does get a bit too hot at times.  Also love theat my kids are at home and we can do so much together.

I would like Peoneve or La Folie.  The U.S. is my country.  🙂

  • Darren Tan says:

I have always been fascinated with citrusy scents so I really like Le Labo's Bergamote 22 and INeKE Derring-Do

I live in the USA. 🙂

  • The two things I hate about summer is the extreme heat and humidity. However, there are some things I do love namely, cook-outs, spending time with family and basking in the glorious sunshine when there's a cool breeze . I would love to win Parfums de Nicolai L'Eau à la Folie, PG'a Private Collection Querelle, Bergamote 22, or LA's Traversee du Bosphere . I am in the US. Thank you very much for this wonderful draw!

  • tomate farcie says:

I'm not a summer person, too hot, too sweaty!  I do like the beach and a cold beer!    I do like summer fragrances; citrus and florals.  My choices would be: Traversee du Bosphore,  L'eau a Folie, Peoneve, Derring -Do, Bergamonte 22.  I'm in the US

  • Hoodedvillan says:

my favourite season is the summer!! no more layers and simply bathing in the sun. I live in Canada and would love to try:

    Le Labo Bergamote 22
    Parfumerie Generale Querelle
Parfums de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie
    Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana

Thank you for doing this draw.

  • Thanks for the drawing! I live in the US and I have been loving eau duelle in the heat. The incense/ frankincense adds a delicious chill. I would love to win the bergaot 22 or the ineke derring do.

  • I am one that always enjoys the hot months, being willing to sweat than shiver. It is so easy to find a tree for shade but so hard for me to get warm when chilled. Alas, fragrance in the hot days does not match pure descriptions but I suspect that  the leather gourmand L'Artisan Parfumeur Traversee Du Bosphore does.

  • One of my favorite things about the summer is a freshly made Mojito, using the mint  I grow in my backyard.  I love the summer, as long as I can escape into an air conditioned home.  I would love to try:

    Le Labo Bergamote 22
    Parfumerie Generale Querelle

I live in the US and thaks for the draw.

  • Summer is by far the best season and I admit to not understanding a preference for any other season. It's a time when the sun shines, things are in full bloom, and people are their happiest. I live in Canada on the west coast so the temperatures never get overly warm here but I've lived in the east for most of my life and despite the overbearing humidity, I loved summer there too. I would be thrilled to win any of Le Labo Bergamot 22, Parfumerie Generale Querelle or Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana. Thank you!

  • Summer — long days, warm evenings, drinks on the deck, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen…I'm conflicted, because I love the clothing of winter but the breezy freedom of summer. I wish Seattle had more pronounced seasons (summer's only a tease right now), but it's much better than my childhood home in Alaska! I'd love to win any of these, and in order, my choices are: Querelle, Bergamote 22, Derring-Do, L'Eau a la Folie, Traversee du Bosphore, Peoneve, Vittoria Apuana, and I live in the U.S.

  • In summer, I love the long days, warm weather, the beach.  Not a fan of bugs or humidity, though!  😉  Would love Bergamote 22, Traversee du Bosphore, L'Eau a la Folie, or Vittoria Apuana.

I live in the U.S.  Thank you for the draw!!!

  • I enjoy Summer !!!! I am a beach bum !!! I love the Sun, Beach, and lots of Beer in the Summer. The scents mentioned in the article are on the Money !!! … Would be Happy with Bergamot 22 or the PdF scent … Perfect scents to deal with the Heat !!!

  • Ah, summer.  If only it wasn't so HOT where I live and HUMID.  Egads!  What I love about summer is spending time at a body of water- I happen to like lakes – but the ocean or the sea will do as well.  A light salt spray is very refreshing and you can't get that at a lake.  Along with water I like to have a small boat at my disposal, a rowboat, sailboat, canoe, or kayak would be fine.  So, the perfume for this fantasy would be L' Eau a la folie by Parfums de Nicolai.  Thanks for the draw and I live in the U.S.

  • I live in the USA. I would love to win any of the bottles up for grabs! Thanks for the draw. 🙂

  • Cleveland is slowly stepping into summer and I, too, am ready for a new summer scent. Mimosa is a perennial favorite, a leather gourmand sounds refreshing and a tropical beach perfume sounds perfect.

I'd love to win SMN Gaggia, L'Artisan's Traversee Du Bosphore or Profumi del Forte's Vittoria Apuana.

My compliments to such a wonderful give-away and yes, RIP Fifth Ave's Takashimaya!

  • I don't care for summer.    :o|

Derring-do or L'Eau a la Folie for the draw. USA

  • Oh, how I wait for summer……

Summer is the greatest for me because of the pool parties, evening outdoor dining, sunlight or day is longer, time 4 getting back into shape, smelling my night blooming flowers, don't have to lug around a coat, getting that golden tan, DJing my music at outdoor events, going to the lake, hitting the baseball games, and so on and so on……Not a fan of the cold in the least bit, though rather weird since I am so hot natured. My summer pics would be:

    1. Parfumerie Generale Querelle            2. Le Labo Bergamote 22
    3. Parfums de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie   4. Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana

    I'm in the United States.

  • Summers here in Taiwan is quite a humid hot mess, where even if you were to run around naked you'd still be sweating like a pig.  It is also a time when I make good use of my cologne-like scents and I spray with abandon anything with neroli, orange blossom, citrus, and sparkling notes.  I would love to win  Parfums de Nicolai L'eau a la Folie most of all and also PG Querelle.

  • Dallas, Twxas has unbelievably hot summers – and the right perfume really helps me hold out till fall. Chanel's Cologne is a favorite – and Le Labo's Bergamote sounds ideal too. Thanks to all the generous sponsors of the draw!

  • I am in total agreement with Michelyn.  Maybe it's because we were both born in December, but I too abhor the heat and humidity of summer.  And don't forget the insects, which love me!

Other than that, I love summer.  🙂  I live in the U.S., in a usually hot town, summer in the city.

I would be grateful to win any of these lovely fragrances.

  • I am a fan of summer… expecially if it involves camping or beaches! Though Late spring and early fall tend to be a wee bit better 😛

It's the one time a year I like mint and aquatics.

I am in the US atm, and would love to win, actually any of them. I keep wafting between all of them.

  • It seems that lots of people like the idea of carefree summer days, but the hot and humid reality is exhausting.  I feel this way too at the height of summer.  Lots of bare skin for perfume though!

i am international and would love to win Bergamote 22 or Traversee du Bosphore.

    Thanks for the generous draw!

  • StephenJohn says:

I'm writing this on the first day of summer here in Ireland. The sunlight is streaming through the leaves of the oak trees that edge the old cathedral graveyard that my apartment overlooks, and the air is filled with the scent of cut grass as the sexton works the lawnmower sending a haze of petrol  fumes to mix with the fugitive smell of the purple fuschia bush that sits outside my open window. Intoxicating! I would be grateful to win any of these wonderful prizes! Tnks for the draw!

  • alexander says:

I love the summer even if most of the summer days here in Bulgaria are very hot.The best way to spend them is at the sea.Every summer I'm on a quest for the perfect summer fragrance and this post comes in the right moment. Thanks for the ideas.I like to have nice cirtus and neroli scents for the hot days but I would enjoy a perfume  more suitable for the colder months wich works fine on me in the heat.Thats why I would pick Querelle. For some reason I haven't tryed it yet but I'm feelining I will love it.

  • wefadetogray says:

I am still used to the dry souther cone summers, hence, the spicey scents of Christmas are still part of my summer memories.  Once I moved to NYC with its hot, humid summers, my summer scents changed too.  I never thought the smell of dump soil and asphalt would be part of my sunny imaginary.  Now I love sitting on a bench on Washington Square Park, under a tree, and just enjoy the saturated light of the NYC summer or the spontaneos heavy rains on my way home.  I still cannot manage to carry an umbrella in the middle of summer so I am often surprised by the rain and have to wait under an awning until it tapers off. Two very different summer memories and experiences inform my thoughts on summer.

I'd love love love to try Querelle.  I am a fervent admirer and lover of anything Pierre Guillaume's nose can possibly create.  I adore incense notes.  A close second for me is Traversée du Bosphore.  amazing draw for sure.  Many thanks!

  • I really enjoy Northern California coastal summers, so brisk and yet beautiful.  And only a few hours from true summer temperatures inland.  It affects my perfume choices so much that I find myself wearing incense-based fragrances when the fog rolls in mid-July.

I live in the U.S. and would love to win Bergamote 22, Parfums de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie, Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle, or INeKE Derring-Do.

  • For me summer is the best time to relax, laze, read books, drink delicious drinks. I also love swimming and riding a bike during summer! It all makes me happy!

If I win I'd like to be considered for Bergamote 22, Traversee du Bosphore, Peoneve, Derring-Do, Querelle, L'Eau a la Folie & Vittoria Apuana

Summer is such a great time to take a break after an exhausting year at university.

    I'm in Poland

  • Joshua Ang says:

I love summer because I'm currently in university and summer presents a very welcome break. I'd love to win Le Labo's Bergamote 22 or Profumi del Forte's Vittoria Apuana

  • I am dominated by the sun.  I love the fact that summer days last well into the evening.  I love the freedom to be able to be outside in the garden and to go for long walks.  I just love summer. To me it's a happy time!  Thanks fo the lovely draw.

I am in the US.  I would like Le Labo's Bergamote 22, Penhaligon's Peoneve, Parfumerie Generale's Querelle and Profumi del Forte, Vittoria Apuana.

  • I love summer because is the season of holidays, of school that will end, of long walks in the night with the dear one, nights when you stay up until morning with your friends.

I would like to win Vittoria Apuana.

    Many thanks!

  • i love summer. hot nights and cool lemonade ! on the bosphorus 🙂

I would llike : Traversee du Bosphore !!! ,  L'Eau a la Folie, Bergamote 22, Peoneve, Derring-Do, Querelle,  & Vittoria Apuana.   from Romania

  • Summer? What summer? No summer in sight here in the Netherlands, where it seems we skipped spring as well. If I want summer, I have to take a holiday to a place with guaranteed sunshine.

To bring summer into my house, though, I would love to win Bergamote 22.

  • My favourite thing about summer is the sensation of total freedom, going to concerts, going for walks wearing an amazing perfume and staying up late. I absolutely adore Traversee du Bosphore, and I would like to try Le Labo, Querelle, L'Eau a la Folie, Vittoria Apuana and Peoneve. Thanks!

    I'm in the UK

  • Michelle U says:

Summer is such a special season, it makes me think about holiday, being relaxed, calm and serene and I link all of that to a nice warm day at the beach. When I think about summer I can only picture sand and the smell of the salty sea water. It is such a comforting image. 😀

    My pick:

    Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle

    Le Labo Bergamote 22

    Penhaligon Peoneve

Parfum de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie

Essenza Nobile Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana

I am from the E.U. Thank you for the draw! Wish you all the best! 🙂

  • Summer used to be a whole different time when I lived in the southern hemisphere…now living in France, the essence of Summer changed completely for me. The celebration of summer is everywhere..smilier faces, people letting themselves go in terraces, more colorful clothes, the free flowing rose wine and the eventual travelling plans..The longer hot and humid nights do make for sultry and fresher scents and the selection of perfumes is just perfection!

I would love to win Le Labo's sunny Bergamote 22 or Pierre Guillaume's sublime Querelle..

Thank you for this great draw…I am in France..

  • I forgot to mention that I am in the U.S. Though, one could probably figure it out by my post. Thanks!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's list of top fragrances for the summer; such a lovely piece to officially welcome the season!

The last of these scents is at the top of my wish list, as Vittoria Apuana sounds incredibly divine!  I would also welcome (in no particular order of preference) Traversee du Bosphore, Peoneve, L'Eau a la Folie, and Bergamote 22.  I am in the US.

  • Summer is beauty and love. And sunny forrests, salty waves, nature and relaxing meditation; And insatiable moments of passion and freedom.

Summer is the a time to be lived. And after it's gone, there are only special memories left.

But I can take those memories out of the drawers of my mind by wearing the fragrances which accompanied my warm days.

That's why I want to remember my summers with Le Labo's Bergamote 22, Penhaligon's Peoneve, Derring-Do, Parfumerie Generale's Querelle, Parfums de  Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie and  Profumi del Forte's Vittoria Apuana.

Thank you and all the best! I hope to see my summer sent in ROMANIA.

  • I like summertime although from time to time it can be little bit tiring because of high temperatures outside – like it is now in POLAND where I live. In these hot days I am reaching for fresh fragrances, often cologne or something green – like Eau de Guerlain, Chanel Allure Homme Sport Cologne, Guerlain Vetiver, F. Malle Vetiver, Sel de Vetiver TDC, Dior Eau Sauvage, Comme des Garcons Vettiveru (works amazing in heat!). I cannot imagine using any oud or woody perfumes during summer, although I am aware that heavy molecules they consist of would last much longer on my skin than citruses or green notes.

    I'd like to win:

Le Labo's Bergamote 22, Parfums de Nicolaï L’Eau à la Folie, L’Artisan Parfumeur Traversee Du Bosphore, Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle, Penhaligon's London Peoneve

  • I would like to win  :

-Querelle (I also love caraway and myrrhe ! It sounds phantastic!) .

-Bergamote 22 would also be  nice.

    I'm in Spain.

  • Living in Florida, summer is just a hotter version of the the year-round temperatures. The sunsets are the most vivid this time of year following the afternoon rain and thunderstorms. I love to sit in my lanai and watch the sun go down every evening! My picks would be Querelle, Vittoria Apuana, and L'Eau a la Folie.

I live in the US. Thanks for this amazing draw!

  • I forgot to say that I hate summer, where I live is very hot, I can't stand it, then, I try to go to the fresh mountains (no beach, please! and…forget all the scents I usually wear in winter 🙁

My first choice goes for Querelle and then, Bergamote 22.

    Im in Spain.

  • FearsMice says:

I crave light, so the long days of summer are perfect for me!  I live in the US and would love to win Bergamote 22, L'Eau a la Folie, Derring-Do, Querelle, or Peoneve. Thanks for the draw.

  • Marcopietro says:

I love the summer, it's the season with longest day of the year, with the sweetest nights and with my birthday.

My choices are Bergamote 22 , Querelle and Traverseè du Bosphore

    I live in Italy

  • I'll go one step further than Michelyn, and say I hate summer. The heat, stickiness, and humidity render me miserable. So far, this draw and the Coney Island Mermaid Parade are the only likable things about the beginning of this dreaded season. Some of the scents sound more intriguing than others; I'm always a sucker for peony or Turkish delight scents though, so i'll have to choose Peoneve and L'Artisan's Traversee du Bosphore. Also, Derring-Do, for its magnolia. I'm in the US. Thanks!

  • ringthing says:

I'm in the US and share Michelyn's feelings about heat & humidity; I spend the summer seeking shade and a breeze. My choices are Querelle, Peonove and Traversee du Bosphore.

  • Sarah Lathrop says:

I love the length of summer days, all the flowers in bloom and the opportunity to swim. I am re-reading Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine in celebration of summer and in tribute to him after his death last year.

I live in the U.S. and would love to win either the Ineke Derring-Do or the Parfumerie Generale Querelle. Thank you!

  • leathermountain says:

This summer is so fantastic so far.  In NYC we've had a total of three days of humid misery.  The rest has been romantic rainstorms (ok, inconvenient for commuters and certain crops) and glorious actual spring days.  I'm loving it!

I live in the US and would love to perfect this glorious summer with Querelle, Peoneve, or Vittoria Apuana.

  • I love the hot air and the feeling of the sun on my face. I love the smell of fresh cut grass and birds in the morning. I love summer.

I’m in the US and would like to win:
    Bergamote 22
    Querelle
    Traversee Du Bosphore
    Vittoria Apuana

Thank you for the wonderful draw!

  • Summer, yuck.  When I was a kid and lived closer to the tropics (and had a gorgeous big yard with a swimming pool) I didn't mind summer. As an adult with a tendency toward headaches during periods of high atmospheric pressure, a water bill to pay, and a yard practically designed to trap and shelter every mosquito within range I am firmly on the side of disliking summer. I just don't like watching everything cook and wilt.  On the other hand, it is nice to have more light in the evenings. I tend to become pretty lazy in the winter.
I live in the US and would love Bergamote 22, L'Eau a la Folie, Derring-Do, Querelle, or Peoneve. Thanks for the draw.

  • In North Texas we've had a mild, beautiful spring but now it's jumped to the 90's, and the over 100 days will be here any moment. It's brutal, but I'm used to it.

I live in the US and would love Bergamote 22, L'Eaua a la Folie, Querell, orVittoria Apuana. Thanks for the summer draw!

  • I love these revues so well wwritten I have derring do which I bought for my husband  and I would love any of your favorite scents

    USA

my favorite thing about summer is that there is a beautiful park near where I live and I can sit outside under a tree and read for hours  thank you  for this opportunity

  •

My favorite thing about summer is no school for the kids, so I don't have to get up at 5am!  I hate heat and humidity!!!

I live in the US and would like to try L'Artisan Parfumeur's Traversee du Bosphore or Parfumerie Generale's Private Collection Querelle. Thank you.

  • I'm with Michelyn, in that I don't love summer.  I do love that the heat does wonderful things to any fragrance.  I wear SL Amber Sultan in the heat,,,and it sings!  The vetivers, citruses are notes I crave during the KS heat.  I would love to win any ( and all) of the scents offered here.  Thanks, and I live in the US!!

  • The only thing I like about summer is the Summer Holiday, when the school is over. Oh, I also like the summer rains. Rains that take you by surprise, offering you a cool gift when outside is very hot.

I would like to win Querelle for I live outside US.

    Thanks!

  • I am working on a summer scent based on cucumber, spearmint and melon, with a teeny touch of cassia. Oddly it smells like Dial soap at the moment, but I'm still working on it. I would love any of the prizes, but the Le Labo one would be my top choice. I am in Vancouver, Canada, where we are having a gorgeous perfect summer day today.

  • I love summer! It's a really different season at my job, with school out and the new students coming in for orientation – I relish the change in pace. I just wish Austin wasn't 100 degree or more every day! I am in the US.

I'd be happy with any of the generous prizes, but here is my order of preference:

Parfums de Nicolai Eau a la Folie, Penhaligons Peoneve, Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana, Ineke Derring-Do, Le Labo Bergamote 22, Parfumerie Generale Querelle, L'Artisan Traversee du Bosphore.

  • helical gnome says:

I like the sun and the heat but I like to be protected against the violent rays of sun piercing my skin.  If I have a fresh, ice cold lemonade and a good amount of fresh air I can deal with the summer.  When I was a little boy I spent the whole summer under the sun, playing with my brother and my friends; those days are gone.  Now extreme heat makes me lazy, cranky; it tires me up.  The scents of summer though, make me happy.  I love when my wife starts to wear her gardenias and frangipanis.

I would love to try Querelle, Traversee du Bosphore and Peoneve.  Thanks for this wonderful draw.  I am in the US.

  • Igor Kipnis says:

To me summer represents warmth that's highlighted with the beach, easy going nights, and relaxing weekends spent outdoors in the sun. Enjoyment of the fruits of the summer is a big plus as well; watermelons, peaches, apples, strawberries, and plums. I look forward to summer days each year and summer always passes by so quick each time.  Summer to me also brings out out my fresh, fruity, aquatic scents which I keep stored away in the closet. To me, I rather have warm weather days then the brutal coldness of the winter of NYC.

Great list of summer scents and I could see myself enjoying them aswell. For the draw I would enjoy any of these:

    50 ml Le Labo's Bergamote 22
50 ml L’Artisan ParfumeurTraversee Du Bosphore
    50 ml Penhaligon's London Peoneve
    75 ml INeKE Derring
50ml Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle
100ml of Parfums de Nicolaï L’Eau à la Folie
50 ml of Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana

    I'm in the US

  • I live in Canada. I love summer fragrances. They work great with my body and are so refreshing for those hot days. I'd love the chance to try

    Le Labo Bergamote 22

    Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle

I've wanted to try B22 for the longest while, it seems like the perfect summer scent. And from just reading reviews of Querelle, it seems daring and different, and I love that.

  • ioana enaru says:

Summer brings my favourite scents…cool breeze, coconut trees and  salty watter in the air, so salty and so refreshing under the strong sun that you can feel it on your tongue ; warmth in the night on Thailand shores, filled with exotic smells and sounds…for me this is the perfect summer.

Thank you for this excellent article and for the draw!

I would love to try: Vitorria Apuana, Traversee du Bosphore, Peoneve, Parfums de NicolAI, Bergamote, Querelle.

    I am from Romania (Europe)

  • I love summer! I a mGreek so summer for me means sun, sea and heat! Now that I live in London and summer means cool days and very little sun it upsets me but I try to combat it by wearing my summer fragrances!! All the generous oferings are lovely so I wouldn't mind having anyone of them!! Thank you!

  • I love wearing light cloths and open shoes. I love sunshine, warm weather and the bright colors of the trees during this time of year. Even the birds sound different. Since I live in the Netherlands it's not often that we have a good and long summer over here, but I still have high hopes for this summer though. Strangely enough my perfume choices are winter scents. It's a lot easier to fragrance myself in wintertime.

My choices are Parfums de Nicolai – L'Eau a la Folie and Le Labo -Bergamote 22.

  • My favorite things about summer? The sun's heat on my shoulders, the heady, wet scent of pavement, grass between my toes, coconut oil, wet earth, the smell of laundry drying in the sun, and barbecues! I just got back from Xios, Greece, known as "the fragrant island". The roses smelled like nothing I've experienced before. An exotic place to be. Next I shall explore Turkey…

Fragrances: Traversee du Bosphore and Bergamote 22.

  • i love summer, but i also love winter.

    and spring.

    and fall.

that is, now, as an adult in southern california i do.

as a child growing up in the northern hemispehre summer was *it*:

the long vacations, the sun, the smells, the sheer fredom to just be…

today's summers evoke those other, older summers for me — but they are not like them (as in: they are different.)

i would love to have parfumerie generale querelle, or parfums de nicolaï l’eau à la folie or le labo's bergamotte.

  • For me summer is about the sea,

being mostly with just the gentle saltiness of seawater adorning you.

It's also about the heat though, sometimes enough to suffocate one,

ocassionally the coolness of a fresh fragrance helps.

I'd like to be considered for:

    Parfumerie Generale Private Collection Querelle

    Le Labo Bergamote 22

    Penhaligon Peoneve

Parfum de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie

Essenza Nobile Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana

    I'm in the EU, Cyprus.

  • Luis Delgado says:

Summer is just a beautiful season, I live in Florida and the smell of the ocean and it's beaches bring great memories from when I was a child. Ever since I began this aromatic journey, I have tried to find a scent that reminds me of the beach I grew up next to as a child.

  • Luis Delgado says:

I always forget to mention which one I would like. Bergamote 22 please. Or any other masculine scent. Thank you.

  • Summer is the season during which love feels like the most natural thing in the world. The dawn smells of walnut leaves, noon of pine needles and labdanum sweat and the dawn of fig leaves. Summer is so dear to me but I think I might have loved it more as a child. I fear that a day might come when I will love my summer no more. Fortunately this doesn't seem very likely in the near future.

Now, I know Querelle is suposed to evoke a dark and twisted passion that I find hard to connect to summer. Still, I'd love to try it for myself and see how it works for this season. So my choices in order of preference would be:

    Parfumerie Generale – Querelle

    Le Labo Bergamote 22

Parfum de Nicolai L'Eau a la Folie

    I live in Greece

  • Marion Low says:

Summer is bare feet,  less make up,  long afternoons sitting under the trees when the afternoon breeze cools warm skin, sipping a tequila Sunrise.  As a child in New England, I loved summers in Cape Cod, clambakes by the sea, and watching the actors from the South Shore Music Circus dancing and singing the score to "Carousel"  parading thru the streets.

I'm in the Southwest desert now, and would adore the leather/gourmand (magic) of L'Artisan Parfumeur Traversee du Bosphore, or the cyclamen/cardamon (smashing) in Ineke's Derring Do.  Or I could be persuaded to lounge on the front porch swing wearing Santa Maria Novella's Gaggia (adore mimosa).

  • Summer is all about heat and salty sea breeze in the air, summer is all about light and white clothes and  cooling summer scent .

I would love a chance to try: Traversee du Bosphore, Vitoria Apuana, Parfums de Nicolai, Bergamote22, Peoneve  or Querelle .

    I am from Romania

  • My favourite part of Summer is the long days where you can have a barbecue in the backyard with mates. The air gets balmy and cool as the sun goes down at 10pm. The days are lazy and have a golden haze about them when you're feeling nostalgic.

Please put me down for: Traversee du Bosphore, Peoneve, Querelle, and L'eau a la Folie.

Cheers, and I am in Australia

  • Summer is the BEST part of the year because we get to come back to Florida and I get to work in the office, instead of from home.

On the weekends, we go for long leisurely walks here, and the humidity and heat makes my fragrances bloom around me like something from a dream. They tend to evaporate quickly, but I experience whole other facets of them that I hadn't noticed before, so it's worth it.

Somehow, I've never tried Tzar and it hasn't been on my radar. I'll have to pop off and buy a sample.

I would love to win ALL of these and am in the US. Please enter me to win the Vitoria Apuana, the Begamote 22 (woot woot Le Labo!!), and the Querelle.

  • Thr longer daylight hours of summer always energize me. I love gardening, visiting the farmers market for fruits and veggies, outdoor gatherings with friends and just being outdoors as much as possible.

Thank you for this wonderful drawing.  Here are my choices, if a winner: Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana, Le Labo Bergamote 22, Penhaligon's Peoneve, Ineke Derring-Do.

Happy summer, everyone! (And happy summer feeling to those where it is not now summer!)

  • suzie frankel says:

Summer – a great start with Kool & the Gang…my birthday is in July…and all the pictures depicted once again hit the mark for the article.  I love Cafleurebon
and Summer.  I would choose Ineke   Derring Do….that's me!   Also would go for the Nicolai scent as my father's name is Nicola…HAPPY SUMMER TO ALL.  USA

  • My feelings about summer are about the same as Michelyn's, so I would love to try the two she recommends, Vittoria Apuana and L'Eau a la Folie!  I live in South Africa.

  • We've been lucky in Ohio this year that we have not jumped into the 90 degree temps and have enjoyed many days in the 70's. Perfect, in my view. I really like having so much more daylight. What a generous draw and such hard choices! I would love to win Traversee du Bosphore, Bergamote 22, Peoneve, and L'eau a la Folie.

  • Well, as I live in TX, there is one word for summer… HOT! It is only the second official day of summer and we are already too hot to trot. LOL (pretty much the type of hot that makes u miserable so far from water) Given the opportunity I would like to win Bergamote 22. I am also curious about Vittoria Apuana and Derring Do. Thanks for the draw from Dallas, TX USA

  • One of the best things about living in Kansas, USA is the four seasons.  I'm always ready for summer, but it is probably my least favorite because I just don't handle the heat as well as I did when younger.   I love nights at the lake under the stars, watching the Perseids meteor shower.

Thank you for the draw!  If I were a lucky winner, I would choose: Querelle, Derring-Do, L'Eau a la Folie or Vittoria Apuana.

  • I live in Israel and summers here are generally in the 35C- still it's my favorite season, just to be near the sea, smell it and the hot sand..

thanks for the draw, I would like to win Parfumerie Generale-Querelle.

  • I currently live in NJ, very near the shore. Growing up, summer was about the beach-  sunny, sandy days and breezy boardwalk nights. Now, though baking in the sun is not on my summer agenda, I look forward to making more happy memories: walking by dog on the beach while catching a bit of the sunrise, building sand forts with my daughter, and watching fireworks over the bay to celebrate the 4th of July. The beachy, summery scent I'd love to win that captures this for me is Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana. Thanks for the draw!

  • My enjoyment of summer has been dependent on where I lived. I hated the heat of Texas and the humidity of Washngton DC in the summer. I would walk outside and just start melting. However, summers in San Diego, West LA, and Alameda are delightful and I wouldn't trade them for anything. Warm days, breezes, paddle boarding, the smell of sunscreen and salt are delightful. I would love to wine Bergamotte 22 or Querelle. I currently like in the US. Thanks for the draw.

  • Normally my favorite thing about summer is all the fun and often free things there are to do around NYC: concerts, fairs, flea markets, walking along the river with my husband and dog, stretching out on the grass overlooking the Hudson, and brunching at outdoor cafes with friends. This summer, however, I'm in the mountains of Northern California and life could not be more different. They each have their benefits. I'm soaking up the scent of pine while I'm here. It is magical.

I didn't know that Maria Candida Gentile is the nose behind Vittoria Apuana! I've almost bought that so many times and somehow ended up with something else. I love MCG's work. (Yummy Burlesque)

I am also completely intrigued by Mark's description of Querelle. I definitely have to try that one. The journey sounds incredible.

I'd be very lucky to win either of these. I live in the USA.

  • The  good thing about summer are holidays and a lot of free time! But….I hate hot! The best  for me is walking in a forest, on a mountain….or travelling to other countries… If a stay in my city, the best moment is at night when one could move a bit (during the day we easily arrive to 38-40º).

I would like to win Querelle! or bergamote 22…..

    A reader from Spain.

  • Summer used to mean sticky New York City heat and seeing my cat sit in the shower and pant. Since moving to the Pacific NW summers are less intense and more easygoing. The thick, linden-honeyed ocean air of Long Island's Hampton summers has turned into cedar bark and rose-scented river breezes along the mighty Columbia.

I'm in the USA and my preferences would be: Le Labo's Bergamote 22 and Ineke Derring-Do. Thanks!

  • My only peeve with the summer is biting insects…if they're not around, I love it, heat and all.

I'd love to try Bergamote 22 and Derring-Do.

I am in the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • Summer here means tourists and traffic. It also used to mean fog but global warming seems to have ended that, to the detriment of the redwoods. Boy I sound grumpy!

How about lovely afternoons in the garden and running the dog on the beach?

I live in the USA and would like to be in the draw for all 6 perfumes. I have never tried any of them.

  • I love the summer and hate it too.

I love my weekend escapes to the country but hate the heat of the city. I would love to win Peoneve  traversee and traversee le bosophere.

  • I love the summer and hate it too

I love my weekend escapes to the country but hate the heat of the city I would love to win Peoneve  traversee and traversee le bosophere.

  • Summer is my favorite season if the year with long days and nights out with friends. I love outdoor cafes and my garden.  I would be happy with any of these great fragrances. I love the sound of l Eau de la folie. Great writing.

  • Summer here in Seattle is a very special time, extremely brief, lasting only a few weeks of July and August between the temultuous unpredictablility of spring and the relative sweltering weeks of late August and early September. But for those short, special weeks, the entire city is in bloom, abuzz with activity like Pride week and Block Party. For me, it's time to put away the virolic ouds I prefer other times year in favor of aldehydic and atmosphereic scents.

At night, a perfume reminicent of campfire! What says summer more than a nights spent around a big pyre?

In USA – would love to be in for Le Labo, Querelle or Derring-do.

  • Summer reminds me of spending time on the coast of Ecuador growing up, going swimming in both the beach and amazing rivers. I remember savoring all those amazing fruits I miss so much not having here. Fragrance is something I love in general, but scents are so often able to draw out those wonderful memories I have of my childhood. All of these sound wonderful and I am interested in all 6. I live the US.

    L’Artisan ParfumeurTraversee Du Bosphore
    Le Labo's Bergamote 22

  • I live in California and love taking road trips into the variety of natural environments this state has to offer. My favorite thing about summer is being able to run naked through the desert with only the moon to light your way.

I would love to try Le Labo or Ineke

  • When I was young I loved summer, now I tend to prefer winter. The summers of my youth were full of long days of playing, romping barefoot through warm garden soil, sun-ripened raspberries, cold water from the hose. Summers now just seem to be all soggy humidity, endless insects, and days so long it's difficult to get the toddlers to go to bed at a reasonable hour. Sigh. But those are just midwest summers; I'm wild about coastal summers and hope someday to move to my beloved Pacific.

I'd love to try Le Labo's Bergamote 22Derring-Do or Peoneve.

  • I like to be out by the lake.

I live in the US, and would be grateful for any of the following: L'Eau a la Folie, Derring-Do or Querelle. ty.

  • I live in NY and would love either L'Eau a la Folie or Vittoria Apuana.

Wonderful article and thank you for the draw!

  • I love summer! I live in the US and would like Le Labo Bergamote, Vittoria Apuana, L'eau a la Folie Querelle Derring-do or Traverse du Bosophore. Summer is a time for adventure and experiences and I think these scents would each take me somewhere. Thanks so much for the drawing!

  • I was just searching for a good summer scent because its so hot I am going to faint I I am not familiar with any but they sound lovely I would love to win any!

  • It's summer all year round here but the essence of summer to me are warm days spent on the beach, sand on my feet and soft gentle waves lapping at my feet. Halcyon days definitely!

I'd love to win Traversee du Bosphore or Querelle please! Thank you so much!!!

  • Summer is great season – and I love it because of long days, bathing in the sunlight, walking on the green grass, smelling flowers and tree blossom. It is full of light, smell, sound – so comfortable for all of us to spent it outside of our houses and appartements. I would like to win any of scents, with L’Artisan ParfumeurTraversee Du Bosphore on the first place.:-)

  • ElizabethN says:

I adore summer in Northern CA, where i live. Cool and foggy mornings and sunny mild afternoons. I would love to win any of the scents, but most of all the Vittoria Apuana or Querelle. Thank you!

Thank you so much for these revies and draws!

Oh, Summer. I like the flowers (the order in which they emerge, noticing their unique scents, peonies and roses and honeysuckle and linden), camping, hiking, leaves, sunlight, and especially outdoor swimming.  But, really hate the heat and humidity, especially for sleeping. I can bask in filtered sun with a dry breeze but get cranky when it's sticky out and burn red as a lobster unless I wear lots of sunscreen.  Love the thunderstorms though, and the scents of the evening and after the rain.

Fall is my favorite season and I tend to have the most 'autumn' scents–lots of spice, sweetness, and earth. Already liked some earthy coconut (therefore summery) scents like DSH Hippie Chic. But I've been getting into florals–even white florals like jasmine and tuberose and orange blossom– and citruses and even that one incredible and unique juicy peach (Peach Silk! exactly) which is the only fruity floral I have–loving them!   Summer scents are much easier to love than a lot of summer itself.

Would love to try Traversee du Bosphore; Vittoria Apuana; Querelle; L'eau a la Folie (if anything can help in the heat, I'm game); Bergamote 22
