CaFleureBon Favorite Fall Fragrances 2011 Part 2: Sergey Ida and Mark + Autumn Draw

In Part 1, Tama and Redneck Perfumisto and I were anticipating the cool weather (it was 73 degrees)  As I post this the leaves have already changed colors and its raining. It feels like winter not Fall, the temperature is 34 degrees

Autumn Favorites by Sergey Borisov

Autumn here in Siberia is not only just a colder season – but also the time when the sky is transparent, and all greenery is changing its color to gold. Gold and sky blue – that`s a perfect combo for something very nostalgic and thoughtful. The sky is so extraordinary deep that one should think about an excellent echo…

That`s the time when I wear most of my vintage Masterpieces: Parure Guerlain, Diorling and Miss Dior Christian Dior, Cabochard by Gres, Eau de Guerlain, Eau de Patou. I wear it not to blame LVMH and Procter &Gamble – just to remember the glory times and by the way, did you ever notice how especially fabulous are all of the vintage perfumes those October days? They have got different characters but a common cistus labdanum + oakmoss accord, that fits autumn so well.

To pick just one is not easy – but let it be 1000 JEAN PATOU the greatest floral chypre.

I do know that my English is  good enough to express all the emotions that  I am experiencing. So – instead of pictures I`ll suggest to you some Russian music to complement autumnal perfumes.

Russian cult group Aquarium, “Gold on Sky Blue”

The raspy chypre voice of 1000 Jean Patou perfume is incredibly good for Indian Summer or rainy October days.

My other fall favorites are spicy ambers to warm up. Yes, autumn is a great time to wear my Serge Lutens perfumes more often – Ambre Sultan, Arabie, Chergui, and Santal de Mysore are my favorites. Spices like coriander, cumin, cinnamon, cloves etc were used as a special remedy for warming up from the very first traditional Indian attars in perfumery. And one could try Chai Masala too – milk, tea and spice mixture – I like to boil it every cold morning.

But the best is one I found last year at Esxence Milano namely FAREB by Huitieme Art Parfums. Its cumin with Bois d`immortelle Base and some deep ambers and woods makes me comfortable and warms me up. Today I`m wearing it and feel myself at home. I got the same effect from my new ABSOLUE POUR LE SOIR by Maison Francis Kurkdjian – aromatic cumin, hot flowers (rose+ylang), smoky atlas cedarwood and rich amber sillage. Smells like black panthere for me.

Irina Bogushevskaya, “Rio-Rita”

And the same effect of sweetness, warmth and bitter spices I feel when I hear the next song of Russian singer Irina Bogushevskaya. This tango that describes the whole life of our grandmothers: before and after The Second World War, long story in just 5 minutes, story of sweet love and bitter losses, nostalgia and memory of family members gone.

2011 Fall Favorites by Ida Meister, Senior Editor

Some things withstand the test of time.

I’m always barking on so about “good design being eternal”, I bore myself 😉

MC loves  En Avion; so do I, but I haven’t any to wear…

So, tedious creature that I am, I’ve gotta say that Mitsouko is an autumn must-wear waft for me.

I should simply give up all pretense, and just wear it incessantly, because it’s a reciprocated longterm passionate  love affair.

Everything voluptuously curvaceous about it makes me feel like a panther, all sinuous and lithe, ready to pounce.

I adore that feeling!

Another fragrance that has bowled me over, is Mona Di Orio’s Oud, from her Les Nombres d’Or Collection.

I am living off of samples, because I simply can’t justify buying this, despite my fever for it.

[I suppose I’m a pragmatic sensualist, alas.]

The animalic intensity simply swirls intoxicatingly all around me; I don’t want to DAB, dammit-

I want to luxuriate in oceans of the stuff, roll around and growl.

There, I’ve confessed.

One boozy, smoky beauty I CAN afford, is Mona’s Vanille- so I do, emphatically.

A celestial mysterious broth  for my very being- not hallucinogenic, but possessing the ability to make one project astrally and experience being out-of-the-body.

Mmmmmm.

Spirit travel in a bottle.

In Fiore’s Saffron of Kashmir.

Hot diggity!

Saffron, oud, neroli, sandalwood- I’m a lucky, lucky gal.

This exquisite, affordable treasure feeds body and soul.

I would adore this in a body oil, so that I can prolong the pleasure indefinitely…

Ava Luxe Delights

There are SO many- but for fall, I’m going heavy on the Palisander, Kama, and Mousse de Chine.

Palisander is woody, spicy, and simply a gorgeously resinous creature; Kama is fiercely animalic, and either alone, or combined with either Mousse de Chine or Palisander, you create an extraordinary signature fragrance.

Mousse de Chine feels like a classic fougère/ chypre with a soft , gentle animalic base…tender and a bit wild.

Its powdery drydown belies its tenacity.

These perfumes cling to you, and they revisit you via gentle murmurs throughout the day and night.

Comfort, sensuality, and sophistication.

A Trio of Fragrances for Fall by Mark Behnke, Managing Editor

There are three new fragrances I’ve been previewing this summer that I am really looking forward to wearing on a day that is cool enough for a sweater.

First, I am completely in agreement with Ida on Mona di Orio Le Nombres D’Or Oud as this is just such an intricate piece of perfumery. I have continued to enjoy teasing out each new discovered nuance in this one each time I wear it. I can’t wait to see what a chill in the air will bring out in this amazing fragrance.

My second fragrance for this fall is going to be the Ineke Ruhland fragrance for Anthropologie  Floral Curiousities Scarlet Larkspur. The rich claret heart of this fragrance is going to be perfect on a day of apple picking or sitting on the porch with a glass of claret in my hand watching the sunset.

My third is Parfumerie Generale Indochine. Pierre Guillaume’s paean to the Mekong Delta doesn’t seem like a natural for fall. The ethereal spiciness of Indochine manages to conjure up the finest warmest cashmere when I’m wearing it and so while M Guillaume wants me to be thinking Southeast Asia my mind is wandering towards soft warmth in front of a fireplace.

There may be a chill in the air but there is warmth in  Mona Di Orio's , Ineke Ruehland's and  Fragrance & Arts (for Huitime Arts FAREB) hearts For our draw there will be three winners.

  • Ambre Ceruleen would be my choice from Huitieme Art as my favorite fall fragrance. Since i already own Ineke Red Larkspur i can say that i find that one a very cheery and uplifting fragrance for the spring. I am still wanting to try the MdO fragrances mentioned as i am sure they are beautiful.

  • Evening Edged in Gold my fav Ineke for fall.
Les Nombres d’or OUD and Nombres d’or VANILLE are my favorites from MdO.
Myrrhiad is the best of Huitieme Art Parfums. I like few others but Myrrhiad is just fall perfect.

  • From Huitième Art I’d like to try Ambre Ceruléen.
From Mona di Orio, Lux is one of my favorites, any time of the year. In autumn I enjoy its woodyness.
From Ineke, I pick Field notes from Paris. I have not tried it but the notes make me think of autumn.

  • My favorite Ineke for fall is Angel’s Trumpet, my favorite Mona di Orio is Oud, and from 8th Art for fall, I’m looking forward to Myhrriad.

  • It seems like there is alot of talk about field notes from Paris. I am still courious
about scarlet larkspur and notes from Paris. I do not have a favoruite from Mona di Orio, as I have never sampled her work. In addition, I have no Ineke scents in my collection either. It would be all new to me but Heavenly I am
    sure.

  • As your article has mentioned, autumn sadly already feels like winter (brrrrrs!). That said, the fragrance from each of the designers’ collections I would wear during this season are as follows: Mona di Orio’s Nuit Noire, Ineke Ruhland’s (fragrance for Anthropologie) Floral Curiousities in Scarlet Larkspur, and lastly Dzing ! from Huitième Art. Each one of these sounds intriguing to me per the descriptions from the websites. Thanks for the drawing – cheers!

  • The Mona di Orio vanille sounds like something I would like to wear this fall. Ineke’s Fieldnotes From Paris would be my choice for autumn notes. And Myrrhiad could carry me from fall into winter. I “liked” the Facebook page.

  • JAntoinette says:

For the Mona Di Orio, I would choose Lux; it’s bright lemon followed by a dry earthiness speaks of the bright but weakened sun on the autumn leaves. For Ineke, I think the Evening Edged in Gold fits the bill with cinnamon bark, leather and woods. And for Huitieme Arts, Ciel d’Airain sounds quite autumnal; full of pears and gray amber. Cozy.

  • Nice to see your picks! A few are faves of mine, too.

Scarlet Larkspur I didn’t really see as an autumn scent, but I will try it again on a cool day. Of the Floral Curiosities, I thought Briar Rose was the most cold-weather-ish,

My Stepmom wore 1000 and I will always associate it with her – it’s stunning.

Mona diOrio’ scents that I have tried are divine – I would love to try that Oud – the Vanille is yummy.

Huitieme Arts is a line I am just beginning to explore – I have a sample of Myrrhiad coming and am looking forward to it.

  • Matildaben and I must be scent twins because I would choose the same three perfumes that she did. Mono diOiro Oud is easily my favorite perfume of 2011. Ineke’s Angel Trumpet is just delicious. I would love to try Huitieme Art’s Myrrhiad. Myrrh is a note that I usually like and I’m sure that Pierre Guillaume must have done something interesting with it. His perfumes fascinate me.

  • Mona di Orio Vanille is perfect for fall, the Oud is amazing too but so out of my range!
My favorite from Ineke is Field Notes from Paris, I never tried any of the Huitieme Arts range, but if Pierre Guillaume is behind, it has to be one line to try for sure.

  • Mona Di Orio Ambre is very warm Autumn fragrance, but not in rainy days. It fits also winter very well.
Balmy days & Sundays by Ineke reminds me of summer. I have tried only Naiviris and Vohina by Huitieme Arts, so from these two I would choose Naivris for Autumn because of very warming saffron.

  • Mona Di Orio’s Chamarre is one I adore one and trying so very hard not to hoard what I have left. The lavender opening is lovely, like opening the door to an airy fall day, and then it settles into that beautiful warmth of sweet myrrh and subtle florals.

I didn’t realize Pierre Guillaume was the artist behind Huitieme Art! Ambre Ceruleen also sounds like it would be perfect for fall.

I haven’t had a chance to try Ineke’s Field Notes from Paris, but I am intrigued by it. From the Floral Curiosities collection, Scarlet Larkspur is an excellent pick for fall; I was feeling the warmth reading about it.

  • Field Notes from Paris was supposed to be one of my Autumn scents until my teenage daughter confiscated it and told me I was no longer allowed to wear it as it was now her “signature scent” 🙂

  • Thanks for the opportunity!

My faves from each house for fall would be:
    Jabu – Mona di Orio
Evening Edged in Gold – Ineke
    Naiviris – Huitieme Art

  • Huitieme Art’s Myrrhiad sounds amazing, I’m very interested in trying this one. From Ineke, Field Notes from Paris is a fall beauty that I certainly fell for, and have a sample I’m still attempting to stretch out. Mona Di Orio Les Nombres d’or Vanille, though, is the one I desire more than any, so perfect and gorgeous for the season. Thanks so much for the draw!

  • I really like Mona di Orio line, and think Tuberose or Vanille would be perfect for fall. From ineke, field notes from Paris sounds beautiful. I haven’t tried any from ineke or huitieme arts and enjoyed browsing their sites. I think Myrrhiad sounds perfect for a chilly day!

  • From Huitième Art, I would love to try Myrrhiad. The name alone transports me. Epic!

From Mona di Orio, it must be Les Nombres d’or Oud.

And from Ineke, Field Notes from Paris, for sure! A lovely leather for fall.
