Mavis Staples is a breast cancer survivor and still going strong at age 82. In addition to her romance (early in her life with the legendary Bob Dylan), she is much more than someone's ex. Her voice has been sampled by some of the biggest selling hip-hop artists, including Salt 'N' Pepa, Ice Cube and Ludacris. On February 13, 2011, Mavis Staples won her first Grammy award in the category for Best Americana Album for You Are Not Alone. In her acceptance speech, shocked and crying Staples said "This has been a long time coming”. I chose Mavis Staples for this post to represent Laurie, who continues to set the bar and inspire so many new perfumistas.
