CaFleureBon Blogathon: Breast Cancer Awareness 10/23/2011 Luckyscent.com + Draw For the Cause

 Franco Wright and Adam Eastwood

Some of our readers  may not know that I am the former publicist for Luckyscent  who hired me in 2002, when there were a handful of fragrance blogs and about 100  perfumes on their site; five are among my favorite fragrances in 2011. Truly, you could not find many of them then anywhere in the world, and certainly not online. Ginestet Botrytis (still their top selling Gourmand since 2003), Anna Pliska, Jalaine Silk,  Profumum Acqua e Zucchero Eau de Parfum  and 01630 Yuzu Rouge  are among my favorites; they are five of my relatively small (35 full bottles and a few 15ml) permanent collection.  Soon after, the news of the little site went viral through many stories, (I mean press releases) were picked up in magazines i.e Lucky, Marie Claire and for a nano second Jay Leno mentioned it as part of his monologue.  Lucky Scent had over 50 million  (non blogger impressions) within the 18 months we worked together (this was not my day job). I also created the The Lucky Stars Astrology Guide.

We consider fragrance as an art form and a business, in that order. Contemporary fragrance is no different. Relevance comes from the creation of works of art that are true expressions of a brand and not the prevailing trends of the day as identified through focus groups. We believe that art drives fragrance in its purest form. Relevance comes through honesty of expression; through the exploration of new materials and methods which transcend the accepted boundaries; through the creation of fragrances that are intellectual and unusual; through the creation of fragrances that tell vivid stories.

These are the things we talk about in our industry, and these are the things we see as relevant. Actual sales figures mean much less. Of course, we cater to lovers of niche fragrances who come to behold a curated selection of brands that we find relevant and interesting. They come because they are unusual and they are relevant because they are unusual. The best way to stay relevant is to pursue truthful innovation without concern for maintaining relevant"

Six Degrees of Separation

1. I  was one of the original contributors for Hara Glick's new site called Make Up Alley

2.  My first article was about  the difficulty of getting an appointment with Eliza's Eyes at Avon.

3. I became Eliza's Brand Director at Avon and contacted Franco Wright (They were so small back then he to used to pick up everyone's calls ) about a fragrance and asked why I had never heard of his e-site. He told me he had a publicist but they weren't any good. I was hired.

4. I contacted Beauty Director Didi Gluck,(then of Marie Claire) an ex colleague from Hearst Magazines and she did a small feature on Luckyscent.

5. The perfume I could not find was from Les Parfums Keiko Mecheri

6.  Les Parfums Keiko Mecheri is another sponsor of our Draw for  the Cure

Lucky Scent is offering a $50 gift certificate and a Harcourt Studio Paris Room spray (that I personally love) with notes of plum, ginseng (improving mental and physical performance and an aphrodisiac), honey (practically wonderful for anything), leather, sandalwood (an euphoric yet grounding psychological effect that promotes a sense of well being, cashmere wood and musk(mental clarity and also an aphrodisiac).

Christina Appelgate had a double mastectomy and is breast cancer free. She made us laugh as the ditzy Kelly Bundy of  Married with Children and in Samantha Who?  Christina now stars in Up all Night.  Since new parent Franco Wright  and I are up all night this post is dedicated to her resilience and sense of humor while battling  breast cancer.

The total package is worth $115 USD and is USA only qualifies for a $5 donation
