Perfumer Christine Nagel, previously the Art Director (Vice President Creation of Fine Fragrance) for Mane, will be working alongside Jean-Claude Ellena at Hermés as of March 2014. She will be responsible for development of new projects, and M. Ellena will continue to assume the mission of the creation and affirmation of the olfactory style of Hermés. M. Ellena says, “The choice of Christine Nagel is obvious to me. The time that lies before us is that of sharing, freedom and difference.” M. Ellena wants to begin the transmission of the uniqueness of Hermés perfumes to Mme. Nagel and prepare, in due course, for a serene succession.

Catherine Fulconis, the President of Hermés Parfums, remarks, “With the arrival of Jean-Claude Ellena in 2004, Hermés opened a new path. Ten years later, we enrich our history to a new and beautiful meeting. We share, with Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Artistic Director of Hermés, the belief that Christine Nagel will be able to put her personality and her talent at the service of writing new pages of our business at Hermés."

it’s time perfumers are being recognized for their talent and big names are appointing them for setting future creative direction as well as giving them more freedom. Christine Nagel’s creations like Theorema continue to remain unparalleled.

  • Interesting development at Hermes. I’m curious to see Nagel’s creations for the house. Although her style of perfume is not my personal favorite, she certainly is very talented. I like her Mauboussin but found it a little too big for me to wear.

  • i never smelled anything that Nagel has created for the Jo Malone line since I don’t typically like the minimalist style fragrances that they usually produce. it will be interesting to see what she comes out with in the years to come for Hermès.
