Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas, Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes and Atelier Des Ors Choeur des Anges~ New Perfume Review + Draw

Marie Salamagne and Jean Phillipe Clermont of Atelier des Ors photo Atelier des Ors©

The search for happiness, a universal and timeless theme in art and music, is the subject of Atelier des Ors new White Collection: Nuda Veritas, Crépuscule des Âmes and Choeur des Anges. The perfumes in the White series, brought to us by creative director Jean-Philippe Clermont and perfumer Marie Salamagne, express three very different aspects of this quest. Each scent is like vignette, related to and inspired by the Beethoven Frieze of Gustav Klimt (1902), each a discreet fragrant moment reflecting humanity's search for joy.

Street artist Dcypher interprets Beethoven Frieze©

The first in the series, Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas, The Naked Truth is, for me, a formulation of possibilities, an expression of ethereal happiness as manifested in the elegant beauty of an open, unfurnished room or the ever-changing patterns of light and shadow reflecting from freshly painted walls. The white canvas of Nuda Veritas interacts with the colors of my personal chemistry to create a subtle veil of exquisite blooming citrus and a delicate jasmine. As a painter I liken the effects of Nuda Veritas to the use of transparent Zinc Oxide acrylic (PW4), a cool translucent white glaze of scent that floats in the air close to my skin.

The Beethoven Frieze – Gustav Klimt©

Clean, slightly crisp and almost spiritual in effect, Nuda Veritas opens like an invigorating rush of cool, wet, bergamot cologne drifting on a breeze of orange blossoms. This refreshing, moist, misty introduction dries and warms after about an hour to a creamy, floral bouquet of jasmine, osmanthus and Tahitian gardenia. The effect is akin to yet another white pigment – the smooth liquid Titan Buff  (PW6:1). Despite the waxen white flowers, Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas is never heavy, but retains, through its twelve to fourteen hour life on skin, an airy, gossamer impression of orange groves in bloom, finished and varnished with a spicy combination of tagetes, musk and oakmoss. Notes: Bergamot, Transluzone, orange flower petals, Jasmine Sambac, jasmine absolute from China, osmanthus absolute, tiare flower, patchouli, tagetes absolute, ambroxan, musk and oakmoss.

Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes (Twilight Of The Souls) offers me an embodied experience of dusky, smoky twilight hours, animalic sensuality and a glimmer of the mysterious willow-o-the-wisp. The very first spritz suggests the use of bright Titanium White (PW6), incarnating and giving substance to airy orange citrus and sweet spices. This slightly opaque effect quickly blends into the richness of Dark Raw Sienna, contrasting with a Dioxazine Purple haze of camphoracious hyssop and the foreboding darkness of Midnight Blue.

The Beethoven Frieze – Gustav Klimt©

In moments the blatant carnality of hyraceum, shrouded in incense, ushers me into a world of swirling spirits, sparkling with gold leaf and gilded with buoyant embers of clary sage and pimento.  As in Nuda Veritas, the development of Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes is subtle, flowing smoothly from one olfactory image to another.  At about thirty minutes the sweet, dark and fuzzy warmth of Crépuscule des Âmes becomes increasingly translucent as the tartness of mandarin returns to the composition. Crépuscule des Âmes, Twilight of the Souls, haunts me all day and well into the night.  As the dawn breaks, hyraceum, the animal spirit of the perfume, finally fades and dissolves into sunlight of bright, white patchouli and an impression of fresh morning air. Notes: Mandarin, cardamom, clary sage, hyssop, incense, pimento berries, hyraceum infusion and patchouli.

Nuda Veritas creates an image of honesty and ethereal innocence. Crépuscule des Âmes paints a picture of dark, sweet temptation and seductive spirits. The third scent of the triptych, Atelier Des Ors Chœur des Anges  (Choir of Angels) is a radiant and heavenly embrace of fruits and flowers, a semi-gourmand ambrosia suggesting the harmonization of body and spirit. With  Atelier Des Ors Chœur des Anges I again visualize a cool veil of transparent Zinc Oxide but also the warmer tones of Unbleached Titanium White (PW6). These variations on white pigment suggest a joyful purity as well as silvery and golden qualities, the bell-like, imagined voices of angels.

The Beethoven Frieze – Gustav Klimt©

Chœur des Anges opens with a palpable juicy blood orange, highlighted with a very polite version of mint-y black currant and the fresh richness of ripe pear.  Before long a combination of osmanthus, orange flower and honey, colored with the vegetal sweetness of carrot seed, create what is best described as a "nectar of the gods".  After about two hours the voices of the angels begin to fade as Chœur des Anges slowly dries into a base of cedar and amber. The entire heavenly chorus lasts about seven hours on my skin and slightly longer on clothing, finishing with a lingering echo of cedar, osmanthus and honey. Notes: Blood orange, blackcurrant, pear, orange flower absolute, carrot seed absolute, osmanthus, cedar wood, amber and Provencal honey.

Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas, Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes and Atelier Des Ors Chœur des Anges, express Atelier des Ors' quest for perfection and incarnate, in scent, the joy of artistic inspiration and possibility.

Disclaimer: Many thanks for the generous decants of Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas, Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes and Atelier Des Ors Chœur des Anges. My opinions are my own.

All three fragrances seem spiritually sensuous. As I adore incense, my choice would be Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes. The addition of pimento berries has me curious if I’d be able to pick it out ony skin. I’m in the USA, thanks for the opportunity.

I love the story behind these 3 fragrances and the one that struck me the most is nuda veritas. As it’s a fragrance that reacts with skins chemistry, I want to try what it smells like on mine, and ponder upon the real truth of myself and the journey. I’m in france, thanks for the opportunity

I loved this beautiful, artistic apporach to perfume creation, not only inspired by but actually interpreting paintings into fragrance.
All three perfumes sound spectacular, but I’m mlstly drawn to Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas. Its composition and performance sound amazing.
    I live in EU (France).
    Thank you.

The reviews were wonderful, using art and color to describe the fragrances in a synesthetic way. Crepescule des Ames captured my attention the most, it is a time of day, with it’s changing light and shadows, that is all about transformation. The notes resonated for me. Thanks for the opportunity. I’m in the USA.

Even though Beethoven Frieze artwork is quite disturbing… while illustrating human desire for happiness in a suffering and tempestuous world. I find the description of Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas the most promising of what light is shown in the idea of what BF was trying to say… This one seem to be more of a warmer weather kind of scent…With its white florals… I do live in the US and THANK YOU

” …Marie Salamagne, express three very different aspects of this quest. Each scent is like vignette, related to and inspired by the Beethoven Frieze of Gustav Klimt (1902), each a discreet fragrant moment reflecting humanity’s search for joy…” What an enchanting concept and beautifully reviewed. If I were to win, I would love the Chœur des Anges as it sounds really lovely. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

These fragrances have been inspired by the idea of happiness and they do include notes, especially, the focus on citrusy, gourmand, and fruity notes that lead to cheerful mood. My choice in this draw is Chœur des Anges because it is fruity gourmand with many notes I enjoy. thanks for the draw. I am in US.

Those beautiful bottles filled with gold flake get me every time. 🙂 I love them! I had a small glass bottle of gold flake floating in water as a child and it was a treasure. I also love how Gail linked each perfume to painting and the different whites. These are all so elegantly named. Thank you for the review and generous draw! I’m in the USA and would choose Choeur des Anges. Thanks again!

Incredible inspiration. Like all the fragrances Marie brings to life, the scents are like paintings, so it’s more than fitting that she uses Klimt as an inspiration. Filled with glitters and gold, nuances and subtle details, just like the name of the house, so are Klimt’s creations. Nude Veritas is such a curious refreshing trip, just for the note breakdown I know this one is my favorite. Portugal here.

Really loved the painting analogies as well as the visual aids that inspired the fragrances themselves. In general, I’m a big fan of the use of orange and its many iterations in perfume, so this trio is particularly intriguing to me. I particularly enjoyed Gail’s description of Crepuscule des Ames with its hauntingly dark, smoky and animalistic qualities breaking with a dawn of white patchouli. A superb metaphor! Kind of reminds me of the story of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars. Yet, perhaps the one that resonates with me most deeply is Choeur des Anges – the proverbial trasmutation into a new state of being amidst a world of cyclic duality. I would absolutely love to win a bottle of that one! Thank you! I’m in Canada.

I love how Gail makes them all sound subtle and smoothly blended, which would be in line with what I know of this house! I also like what sound like sensuous basenotes that run through all of these. Crepuscule sounds appropriately dramatic and beautifully described! Gail makes the progression sound like a journey! I like this line’s Lune Feline and Iris Fauve. Crepuscule would be my choice for this contest. Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

Gail’s intriguing review makes all three fragrances sound wonderful. Her comparison of the scents to different paint hues is interesting. Her impression that “Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas” “retains” “an airy, gossamer impression of orange groves in bloom, finished and varnished with a spicy combination of tagetes, musk and oakmoss” makes me want to experience this one of the three. Thank you for this generous draw! I live in the US and would love to win Atelier Des Ors Nuda Veritas.

Even if I am a man, my favourite from the line would be Nuda Veritas. The soft yet rich duet of jasmine and tiare but also the orange blossom from the opening is something I can not remain indifferent to. I think this one is very somptuos and sophisticated.

I like the sound of Chœur des Anges. It seems perfect for a walk on the beach at sun dusk. All the juicy, succulent fruits paired with osmanthus and orange flower… really something angelic and out of this world.

I read again stories behind these 3 fragrances with big interest and pleasure.
Nuda Veritas delicate white perfume as just for bride.
Crepuscule more masculine from this line – dark, smoky.
Chœur des Anges is interesting, beautiful honey- floral perfume.
Thanks for interesting review and great draw.
I would like to win Chœur des Anges.

I enjoyed reading this review so much, it speaks to my imagination and different senses: music, perception of colour, cultural references… I love the Picture with the beast, but as I am afraid of animalic notes, I would love to win Chœur des Anges, love the combo of juicy fruits and carrot seeds!

The Beethoven Frieze is quite an interesting source of inspiration! I particularly like the “choir of angels” interpretation in the final part of the article, and orange flower with honey would seem to me to be perfect notes to fit this theme. If chosen, I would select Chœur des Anges. Thank you for this very generous draw! I live in the US and am a fan of this house, with Lune Feline being a beloved favorite.

The write-up of this piece from Gail is painted beautifully. I love how she described these scents with different colors and the materials used for those colors. She did an outstanding job and it definitely shows! I love the description of the third fragrance, Chœur des Anges! This, and Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Ames, both really intrigued me! I love how Chœur des Anges has a mint-y blackcurrant opening along with ripe pear. I have recently been getting into pear in perfumery and am liking it…. I also like the fact that this one is a slight gourmand with honey. The words just describe the juice beautifully! I would definitely pick Chœur des Anges! Thank you for the opportunity. Such a sophisticated and poetic selection of words and expressions in Gail’s review made me go through the article twice to figure out which of the three appeals to me the most ( all the descriptions are impressive that makes the choice hard to be made))) Yet, Choeur des Anges Is the one that seems to be the most to my liking according to the selection of notes. I would love to get the chance to smell the ‘joyful purity ‘ and ‘ heavenly’ embrace of fruits and flowers’ that Gail mentions.
