Amouage Beach Hut Man (Christopher Chong and Elise Benat) 2017- New Fragrance Review Finding Solace Draw

Amouage creative director Christopher Chong

An olfactive escape to a place of freedom and oblivion where nature overpowers all senses.”-Beach Hut Man

The mark of an extraordinary perfume company creative director is one who knows exactly what is needed, and when people need it. Amouage creative director Christopher Chong has done exactly that with the latest release Beach Hut Man. As tenacious and long lasting as the wild grass that grows on the beach, this beautiful and compelling fragrance will be loved and worn by men and women alike.

With a world seemingly gone quite mad full of hurricanes, earthquakes, forest fires, political conflict, it is without question that what is needed in times of great stress are moments and places of calm and solitude. That is exactly what Beach Hut Man provides; a quiet and serene fragrant retreat where one can unplug from the constant barrage of electronic news, media,e- mail, and just be.

Whenever life feels too “big”, I find solace and succor in the vast, endless and uncontrollable oceans of the world, often content just to wander or sit and think, to go inward and try to figure it all out.

Beach Hut Man is the olfactive equivalent of a weathered and grey wind-blasted cottage hidden in the dunes surrounded by tall grass and sand, where one can hide away from all the drama and stress and reconnect with the magic and wild medicine of nature.

La visage©

Hiking through drifts of wind-swept sand held in place by rickety beach fences and tall grasses you make your way down to the deserted beach where solitude awaits. Rock Rose and other hardy succulents grow intermittently in the occasional mounds of earth surrounded by the sand, and you stop to pick some wild mint and rub it between your fingers and relish the cool fresh aroma surrounding you and as you exhale your heart slows and you start to feel at peace.

Stepping over sun bleached logs of driftwood strewn about like pick-up stix, you smell the sand, salt, and moss that clings tenaciously to the wind-battered wood. In the distance you can see the walls and roofline of the cabin that has become a haven to you in these storm-tossed times. Ivy clings to the sides of the small house resisting everything thrown at it, as it continues to thrive and grow despite ill-winds and tempestuous changing times; the ivy a perfect metaphor for the stormy seas and emotional rip tides that tug and pull, threatening to overcome yet in the end receding and allowing you to reach a state of quiet amidst all the daily turmoil that modern life can provide. The rusted hinges resist as you open the door to this generations-old cabin where you can rest at last, and know that your hearts ease awaits within.

Notes: Mint, Orange Blossom, Galbanum, Vetiver, Moss, Ivy, Patchouli, Myrrh, Dry Woods

Disclosure: Many thanks to Christopher Chong and Amouage for supplying the sample. The opinions are my own.

  • If this perfume is like the paragraph describing the seaside smells of sand, salt, moss and wind-battered wood then I have to have some. As for calming myself when life is tumultuous, well I’m not very good at that. US

  • Patrick Echevarria says:

Robert beautifully described it as a much-needed retreat from all these modern chaos. I wanna win this to see how relaxing this fragrance invokes and gives solace and serenity to it’s wearer. Like many, when a much needed escape and break is needed,I just head to an isolated beach and do blank stares over the sea and sky and just not think of anything. San Diego

  • Robert says Beach Hut is a very timely release, given the events we are facing today and it also honors modern trends. It reminds one of the beach in various ways including salty water, fresh grass, and hit. I think a lot in tumultuous times. I am in US.

  • Reflection and sunshine are my favourites from Amouage house. After reading Robert’s review and the notes , i would love to try this beach hut man. I live in EU, thx for the draw.

  • Roger Engelhardt says:

I believe in the magic and medicine of nature, so that line pulled at my heartstrings. This is the second very positive review I have seen, so it must be making waves on the blogs! Making waves, how fitting!!I have owned Epic Man, Gold Man original, Lyric Man, Interlude Man, Epic Woman and Ubar. Wonderful, wonderful review!
    I am in the US.

  • I love minty green scents and could really use something soothing right now. I could use a walk on a deserted beach, too, but didn’t realize it until I read the review 😉
My favorite Amouage is probably Epic Woman, but only if you don’t count the lovely old attars and the original Gold. I really can’t choose. For me, the best way to unwind and get centered is to do sometihing mindless in the garden. Digging weeds, usually.
    I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • BostonScentGuy says:

With the kind of ridiculous name, I’m so happy this is not a trashy-beachy, but rather contemplative more driftwoody scent (in feel, that is). The greenness with the resins and saltiness sounds great! When life is crazy, I like to take a few deep breaths of lavender…cliche I know…but less cliche when the lavender is Jicky, Kiki, or some other intriguing scent. I love Amouage and am a huge fan of several. Favorites include both Jubliations, Tribute, Gold Man, Dia, and Memoir. Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

  • When I am overwhelmed, I love nothing better than to wear a scent that smells like the sea or the beach and imagine myself on the Upper Cape. Robert’s review captures this precisely and I hope that Beach Hut does too! I am in the US.

  • I love all the notes, specifically orange blossom, vetiver and patchouli. Fragrance IS my form of relaxation. It’s my daily “medicine”. I choose a fragrance each day based on my mood, especially if I need to uplift my spirits. I couldn’t go a day without perfume. And on days that are especially stressful, I tend to lean towards scents that contain notes like orange blossom because it’s so clean and soapy. Or notes like lavender and sage when I really need to de-stress.
I’ve not ever tried anything from Amouage so I’d be thrilled to win this and have it be my first!

    I live in the U.S.

  • I think Robert is able to describe what we all would like…a retreat into quiet and meditation. There have certainly been those moments at the ocean when I have experienced that peace, but not lately. I’m intrigued by the notes of this fragrance. My favorite Amouage is Interlude. Thanks for the draw. I live in the USA

  • Beach Hut sounds very much like I could love it! Your review appears quietly excited, I liked that 🙂 I am a fan of the latest Amouage releases Bracken and Myths (Figments not at all though), so I appreciate Chong’s work. If I win, please send the bottle to Germany.

  • I liked the image of the refugee cabin and that is why I wanna win: when I’ll spray it , I want to go somewhere peaceful so I can truly enjoy it. My favourite Amouage and all time fragrance is Jubilation XXV. My favourite method of calming is a city break. I live in UK.
    Thanks for opportunity

  • I very like the sea, and everything what reminds me of it. I have never tried anything from Amouage yet. This perfume sounds very good and interesting. Thank you for the chance. I live in the EU.

  • Robert, you make this sound very calming and appealing. Plus I love when people use words I haven’t heard in a yonks. Thanks for saving the word “rickety”!USA

  • Love the creativity of the art in the reviews, seems to be a unique approach for Amouage. Figment is one of my favorite Amouage fragrances, although there are a number. I live in Virginia, USA.

  • When I read the name I admit I was skeptical because it sounds not really Amouage. Glad Robert wrote this review because I am now really interested especially with the ivy and moss and windswept wood
I do wish Amouage would get back to incense and more of its Omani roots but I am really intrigued by this one
I live in the US my favorite is Epic Man and Memoir woman.
    Running is my escape

  • I really like the imagery that issues from this review. It makes me perceive the scent like I just sprayed it a few seconds ago around me, and I can distinguish all the notes.
I want to win because I never tried an amouage perfume, but I watched and read so many positive (also mixed) reviews that I have to have one.
    I live in the E.U.
    Thank you.

  • I really enjoyed the vision created by Robert’s review–the journey from the edge of the beach down to the shore.
The line “a quiet and serene fragrant retreat” really resonated with me.
I would love to have that in my life.
I have not smell any Amouage fragrances.
    I live in the U.S.
    Thank you for the drawing.

  • Love Amouage, the earlier stage though! Haven’t tried the rather recent offers from this house. My favorites are still Memoir Man, Epic Man and Jubi XXV, that’s the style that first drew me in, but I’m quite intrigued by Robert’s review on the connotations that Beach hut Man conjures up, I’m looking forward to this “quiet, serene retreat” for the end of summer!
Based in Houston, Texas, hoping to win!

  • My parent owned a beach cabin. The environment and that cabin has lot of memories. My favorites from this house is Interlude,Journey and Reflection.

Looking forward to this experience that this promises in its scent profile.

I don’t have any beachy perfumes and will love to try this.

    In Washington.

  • Robert’s review managed to depict visually the notes of Beach Hut Man vividly to make you understand what the scent is all about. Whenever troubled times comes I seek comfort in praying and reflecting in solitude. My favourite Amouage is Reflection Man. I would like to win Beach Hut Man as the reviews say that it is similar to Reflection Man in terms of wearability and it will also be a great present for my upcoming birthday. Ca, US. Thanks.

  • Thank you Robert for tour review so poetic and evocative!
You have awakened my passion for the desert sandy dunes swept by the wind carries marine and vegetable scents.

  • Thank you very much, Robert Herrmann, for beautiful review. Your review makes me forget all prolems and s you describe, solitude in the cottage hidden in the dunes, feel at peace.
Whenever troubled times comes I seek calm in danceing, have conversation with good friends, sweaming…
I like Amouage and I would ilke to win perfume from my favorite brend and just because as review says- it isvery very nice and relaxing perfume.
My favorite Amouage is Dia Man, Myths Man, Jubilation.
    USA, DE

  • Robert so aptly describes the emotions. To me a fragrance is an olfactory journeyand the emotional component plays a leading role. When things get too stressful thereis nothing like a walk in the forest being intently present.

  • Thank You for this giveaway. I’d love to try this new release
I like the quality of Amouage Fragrances. Haven’t smelled too
Many from this House but Reflection Man is my favorite so far.
    Peace

Clean. There’s something satisfying in getting rid of dirt that calms me down and makes me feel like I have my life together.

    I live in Europe

  • I am a massive fan of the Amouage house. Almost tried all of their mens offerings and I own Memoir Man, Jubilation XXV, Lyric Man and Beloved Man. I love in Roberts review how I can visualise the picture he is explaining. My favourite Amouage has to be Memoir man : I love the sweet mint in it mixed with the wormwood, leather and incense. How I calm myself when life is tumultuous? I try to remain always positive, no matter what, every bad thing has its positive side and if I have a bad time I am thinking someone has it worse, we need to be thankful what we have

  • Tom Schroeder says:

The idyllic setting that Robert paints contrasts greatly with my occasionally stressful engineering day job. I love the outdoors, and images and feelings conjured by the description above are great. The notes I would want to pick out include Mint, Vetiver, Ivy, Patchouli, Myrrh (which I really enjoy), and Woods, and this sounds like a winner. I calm myself when life is tumultuous by getting away and reflecting. When I cannot drive somewhere, I will meditate and visualize beauty. My favorite Amouage fragrance is Jubilation 25, followed closely by Reflection Man. (San Jose, California, USA)

  • From the review, I love that the fragrance reminds us of old wood, green foliage and a hideout place. While I was reading, although my grandparents didn’t have a beach hut, nor did they leave near the beach, I instantly got reminded of them.

Even now, years after the passed, I can still sense in my the smell of the old house they had, from the wood of the old furniture, the unkempt garden or the sheets they used in the house. Also, that was my hideout place. I don’t think I’ve ever felt safer or happier than when I was with them, in their house, at that time. 🙂

Nowadays, I don’t really have just one thing I do to “escape”; sometimes it’s just listening to music, other times is going out with friends to have a laugh over a glass of wine. But next time I need a safe haven, I’ll try to think of my childhood and the 2 people that marked it in a decisive manner.

I live in Romania, EU. Favourite Amouage is Sunshine Man.

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Wonderful review! Love the description specially in bold statements. Amouage Beach Hut description giving a feeling to set apart or cut off from others, stress and social & busy life; and living on a deserted sand beach somewhere in West Indies. But there is no escape for me, so when it’s not my day I give time to my grandchildren and/or start playing/sniffing my perfumes/attars/samples/decants. My favorite from Amouage is Interlude Man, followed by Jubilation 25.
Thanks to Amouage and Christopher Chong for the generosity and CafleureBon for the opportunity by letting my relative address in US.

  • Thank you, Robert, for another beautiful review! I am a big fan of Amouage, even they are not easy to wear on daily basis – they are too majestic, even kind of divine or royal. My most favorite is Interlude Woman. I would like to win the Beach Hut, because i want to escape from the modern world. I’d love to escape on some lonely beach. I especially like being there when it is autumn in the air. And i think this perfume is also like that, with some melancholic vibes. I like that!

  • The notes seem really interesting and intriguing. A lot of green ingredients brought together in this perfume in order to recreate the solitude one can find on an isolated beach. Reading Robert Hermann’s review and impressions, it seems like Cristopher Chong achieved the goal with this one.

I find solace in classical music. My favourite from Amouage is Jubilation. I am from EU. Thanks!

  • I love language perfume. I used Jublication, Beloved, I loved Orange blossom. I like oud and.leather. whenever I use amouage feeling wealthy.
I would like to win beach Hut.

  • The photos chosen to illustrate this review are spot on. I love the smell of sand and sea and and I think Beach Hut would be such a perfect match for my taste.
My favorite Amouage is Dia. Thanks for the draw, I live in EU.

  • It depends on how much time I have. I usually calm myself by swimming, if I have more time, I’m sailing, If I have much more time I’m going to South East Asia. I love this house and I’d love to try this release too. I live in UE.
