A Perfume Organic: Grace Undyed

“The most perfect grace consists not in external ornamentation but in allowing the original material to stand forth, beautified by being given form. GRACE means being undyed” From  # 22 Pi / Grace The I Ching the Richard Wilhelm Translation

The first thing that strikes me upon receiving the samples from A Perfume Organic is the company’s attention to detail. As an advocate of sustainability for 20 years you might say I have a nose for fakers. Amanda Walker’s company A Perfume Organic …well, they are for real. The minimally packaged perfumes are presented in charming glass roller bottles inside flower seed embedded paper boxes printed with soy inks. The little sample pouch is similar with its simple undyed fabric, unbleached paper sample cards, simple glass perfume vials. All good. I am reminded of the I Ching’s 22nd hexagram “Grace”. The highest form of “grace” also means “undyed”. The explanation is that true grace is achieved when the outside and the inside match, in a simple, graceful, undyed manner. Perhaps this is the definition of Natural Grace.

The perfumes match the packaging. They are simple and graceful. Each perfume arranges itself nicely on the skin, blending well with the skins oils in part, I think, due to the base being oil rather than alcohol. The sillage is mild, the longevity also mild.

My favorite of the group of scents is the “White Magik” which I think is a charming and rather unusual bouquet of jasmine and white flowers with touches of green herbs such as lemon balm, spearmint and the mystical and botanical musk note angelica. This bouquet I find uplifting and “twirly”, rather like a new summer dress. The scent is innocent, a fragrance one might wear on a first date with a man one already likes, a kind person that you can feel safe with and feel assured will regale you with funny stories, perhaps read you some poetry, and take you for a nice cup of tea. A first kiss would go well here too.

The other 3 scents I sampled from A Perfume Organic were the Perfumed Wine/Rose which is a yummy spicy rose and fruit scent (favored by my visiting stepmother), the Green, which is a lovely floral bouquet of ylang ylang, rose and chamomille supported by wood, and the Urban Organic, which is an uplifting citrus scent with tangy citrus peels, smoky vetiver and a few herbal compliments such as lavender and basil.

Although I have never had the pleasure delight my senses with Perfume Organic's Line, I am a fan , and a Facebook friend of Monica Miller as well.

This description has left me wanting to pen a note, sip tea with a friend, walk barefoot in a meadow, and perhaps, some unmentionables.
Thank you for the images. Micaela

  • My wife is a romantic and loves mystery and enchantment. This perfume i believe would give her a sense of mystery suspense and love. I am 67 and she is 69 but love her very much and want her to have healthy fantasies……………perfume guarantees them.

  • Beautifully simple packaging indeed. Love the I-Ching quote – haven't read Wilhelm's translation but will look for it. 🙂

  • I'm sure I would love Green the most, according to the notes. White Magik sounds lovely too. Rose might be to winey to my taste.
Anyway, please, enter me in the draw 🙂
    Thank you very much!

  • Beautiful photos, packaging and article. I love your entire article and this sentence in particular “This bouquet I find uplifting and “twirly”, rather like a new summer dress.” If I were somewhere near wherever this is sold I would be on my way out the door to sniff them all. Ah but then I would want a twirly dress and all those other wonderful things you describe so well. My goodness! I find myself breathing deeper as if your words impart a perfume tester to all readers. Thank you! I am off to reread!

  • What a wonderfully evocative review.  One can already smell the delicate jasmine, the amazing angelica, and the gentle chamomile!  Thank you for awakening my olfactory senses so early in the morning!  All of these perfumes are described beautifully.  Now, which to order?  Hmmm…

  • Love the packaging! 🙂 Love the story. I bought essential oil from chamomile – who would say that such a gentle plant could have such a strong scent! 😀

  • I would love to be entered in this draw. The bottles look just stunning. I've been craving jasmine scents lately, although Perfumed Wine/Rose sounds like something I'd really enjoy.

  • These all sound lovely! The Wine/Rose idea appeals to me very much. Please enter me in the draw, thanks!

  • It's great to see another organic perfumer creating pretty, wearable scentsscenes. Please enter me in the drawing!
