A New Look at Etat Libre D’Orange Archives 69: Rated R?

The formula for Archives 69 has not changed but the packaging has.

Do you think Etat Libre D'Orange….pushed the envelope too far or stays true to the brand's DNA?

  • No worse than the squirting penis for Secretions – if anything, it's more tasteful. It's what we think when we hear or see 69, anyway, or many of us, so why not? It's part of the general flavor of the line.

  • Not to be boring, but I'm a mother- and would be embarassed to have my kid see this sitting on my vanity…!

  • Somehow it's both!

I don't particular like using sex or curse words or even provactive ads (lookiing at you Abercombie). However, Etat Libre D'orange has chosen that path and I'll defend them to nth degree to do.  By the same token, I choose NOT to support that style by voting with my dollars and purchasing elsewhere.

  • They did pushed the envelope but that is Etat Libre D'Orange. By now we are used with their marketing style… and their fragrances.  If they weren't provocative we would be disappointed. Nobody wants that, right ? 🙂
If  they are too provocative for my vanity and the maid might get embarrassed 😉 … I will keep them in the drawers … well if I ever decide I need a FB. So far my maid is safe. 🙂

Hmm, the image doesn't actually depict the number 69 because of the extra body – this version puts me in mind of the three-legged symbol of the Isle of Man!  (Trie Cassyn, or, more aptly, The Kingdom of Sicily's trinacria).
Yes, no matter how provocative the subject, I can think like a matter-of-fact editor!

  • They pushed the envelope, but fortunately (or unfortunately?), the picture does not appear in the bottle nor the packaging when you purchase one of their perfumes. They only show these desings on tester bottles.
This isn't worse than the Secretions Magnifiques desing, that's for sure 😉

Now that I have seen the illustration I can tell you I am most definitely not interested in the product. That goes for Secretions Magnifique, too. Call me old-fashioned, I don't care: it's not the subject, in this case oral sex, that I find offensive, just the blatancy. And then there is this other, old-fashioned idea: why in the world would I want to smell like sex?

  • Queen Cupcake says:

P.S. I can think of other ways I would rather smell like sex, and it's free. 😉

Kathleen answer is really intelligent, also if you don't like it, just look somewhere else, it is just a perfume, it is not going to kill anybody or put the world upside down.

  • I actually like this better than some of the tacky ads/images that are just suggestive of sex.

  • If these labels are only on the testers, I think those testers are going to become highly collectible. Interesting to see if they pop up on ebay with fairly high prices. …

  • Hi everyone,
I think Etat Libre d’Orange managed once again to trigger debates about perfumery: are explicit images and smells to be excluded from fragrances? Does pornographic concepts prevent fragrances from being interesting for one’s nose?
Anyway, I quite agree with Tama: this picture is tasteful indeed (pun intended).

  • These labels are not for testers. It is their new look, same jus.  Isa is mistaken. I have the press info from the  company.I also saw the labels at elements as a preview in NY. Please read Sergey Borisov's review.Beautiful jus…no matter what the label

This is absolutely Etat Libre d'Orange! Pushing the envelope? Not a bit! i haven't fallen in love with any of their perfumes yet, but I haven't yet tried Vraie Blond…Jasmin et Cigarette is great….Even though the picture is blatantly sexual it doesn't make me uncomfortable to look at it…well done!
LOL at Anna in Edinburgh's comment of this three-legged creature resembling the symbol of The Isle of Man!
