100 Flowers For Women’s Wear Daily 10 th Anniversary: IFF Carlos Benaim & Edward Nardoza (les Nez)

You would expect a fragragrance created by IFF Carlos Benaim but when I received this press release I was both elated and surprised that EIC of WWD  Ed Nardoza is now a "nose". I met Mr Nardoza  fifteen years ago in my other so called life- (outside of Perfumery) as  the former EVP of marketing for Sun Apparel, Inc. (see how I met Heather Thomson of  Yummie Tummie) because we were one of the largest advertisers  at that time.I am also the Fragrance Curator for Ahalife.com and curated Mr. Benaim's  scents  Runbrum Lily and Juraissac Flower home diffuser

"International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) announced today that it has created a one-of-a-kind fragrance to commemorate the 100th anniversary of WWD (Women’s Wear Daily), the media of record for the fashion, retail and beauty industries.  The scent — 100 Flowers — is created by Master Perfumer Carlos Benaim.  Carlos collaborated on the inspiration for the scent with WWD Editor-in-Chief Edward Nardoza.  This was Mr. Nardoza’s first foray into creating a fragrance.  300 gifts of the scent will be provided as gifts for guests attending the opening night cocktail party for the WWD CEO Summit / Apparel & Retail at the Plaza Hotel on Monday, November 1st in New York City.  Opening night cocktail party guests who will be industry leaders from around the world will have the opportunity to enter to win one special 500ml bottle of 100 Flowers. The winner of the fragrance will be announced at the Tuesday morning session of the WWD CEO Summit. IFF is one of the sponsors of this year’s CEO Summit which will include fashion, retail, social media and marketing executives from around the world who will also attend WWD’s 100th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, November 2nd. Like WWD, IFF has enjoyed a rich history of creating some of the century’s most iconic scents from the classics such as: Beautiful by Estee Lauder and Polo by Ralph Lauren to new icons such as: Euphoria by Calvin Klein, and Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf.  -via press Release

Carlos Benaim is one of the living legends of modern perfumery. He is a recipient of the American Society of Perfumers Lifetime Achievement award and the winner of numerous FiFi’s. Benaim often finds inspiration in recalling the scents and flavors of the many parts of the world in which he’s lived, but he feels anything can be a source of a great idea—a color, a flower, or even a memory.  He has been involved in the development of many fragrances, often in collaboration with other IFF perfumers.  He has created some of the world’s most beloved scents from Polo by Ralph Lauren to Jasmin Noir Bulgari

Editor's Note: I was approached by IFF to interview Carlos Benaim and  submitted my interview questions. IFF changed their minds. In one more  six degrees of separation, Mr. Benaim's cousin lives on our floor in our home in Great Neck  I still have the interview.

  • I would love to have Cafleurebon do an interview. Wow I can only imagine what 100 Flowers smells like. Has he written a book. I would be so intrigued to hear about the scents from his travels.
